I’m on a tight budget, what should I look for in a mattress this Cyber Monday?
Spent too much on Black Friday? We’ve all been there, but it may mean looking at Cyber Monday sales with a keener eye. If a new mattress is still on your ‘to buy’ list, the Cyber Monday Mattress Deal can help you find a quality bed at an affordable price. But how do you know if you’re getting something good?
I’ll be honest: a budget mattress will rarely be the best mattress, but that doesn’t mean you have to settle for something bad. In this guide, I’ll cover the basics of what to look for when buying a budget bed, as well as some of the best affordable mattresses in the Cyber Monday sale.
If you are on a very limited budget, you may prefer to purchase a mattress topper. The best mattress topper can transform an uncomfortable bed (and there are plenty of mattress toppers in the Cyber Monday sale).

What should you pay attention to with a budget mattress?
Looking for a budget mattress in the Cyber Monday sale? Here are the features to consider…
1. Comfort/support
What I mean by this is: can you spend every night on the mattress without feeling uncomfortable? Adults typically need a minimum mattress depth of 10 inches for comfortable and supportive sleep. Small/light adults can sometimes get by with something thinner (e.g. eight inches), while those with a heavier build should consider investing in something thicker.
Many cheap mattresses (especially the best mattresses on Amazon) come with multiple depth options. These often start at 15 cm and can sometimes become as thick as 14 cm. A 6-inch mattress will probably be super cheap, but it will also be super uncomfortable, especially after a few weeks. Save yourself the neck pain and go thicker.
2. A good trial period (or a possible trial period)
It usually takes about 30 nights to get used to a new mattress. By the end of that period, you should know broadly whether a mattress will work for you. 100 nights is a standard trial period for mattresses, and some premium brands offer 365-night trials. Even a budget bed should have a trial period of at least 30 nights so you can try it without any obligation. Be careful with trial periods where you can’t actually sleep on the bed. For example, some Amazon mattresses have a 30-day return period, but you cannot remove the mattress from the packaging. And it’s quite tricky to try out a mattress that’s still in the box…
A decent warranty is also a must. 10 years is usual, but you might be a little less concerned about a budget mattress.
3. Safety certification
Buying on a budget should never mean sacrificing your health and safety. If you choose a mattress with foam, always pay attention to the CertiPUR-US certification. CertiPUR-US certification means that the foams meet a certain standard and are free of materials such as heavy metals, certain flame retardants and ozone depleters.
This is the bare minimum and most mattresses have a CertiPUR-US certification or an equivalent certificate. However, some internationally manufactured mattresses do not meet these safety standards and should be avoided.
4. Does the mattress support your sleeping style?
Even if you are on a budget, don’t neglect your sleep preferences when purchasing a mattress. Otherwise, you’ll either have to put up with a bad night’s sleep or pay for a new mattress. Check out our guide to choosing a mattress for more information.
