In a video posted to TikTok this month, makeup artist Selena Marchand revealed how to find the right foundation for your skin type

The video was made as part of her series: ‘It’s probably not your makeup products… it’s you’

“If you choose the wrong foundation for foundation, it will look absolutely terrible on your skin,” Marchand began.

‘So what I suggest is to choose the opposite of your skin type. If you’re dry, you want to choose a really dewy foundation,” she explained.

Marchand told viewers that the foundation she chose was one that had a bit of shine because she has dry skin.

On the other hand, however, the makeup artist instructed that if you have oily skin, you will want to go for a foundation with a matte finish.

“If you’re dry and choose a matte foundation, it won’t be good,” Marchand continued.

“And if you’re oily, and you use something with shine in it, you’re going to feel like a little grease ball.”

After you found the right foundation, the makeup artist showed you how to apply it correctly.

She started with her skin prep, applying a moisturizer from the Embryolisse brand, which she applied before any foundation.

In the video, Marchand explained that you should match your foundation to the opposite of your skin type

Perfect match! How to find the right foundation according to Selena

  • Marchand instructed viewers to choose the opposite foundation for your skin type
  • “If you’re dry and choose a matte foundation, it won’t be good,” Marchand explained.
  • “And if you’re oily, and you use something with shine in it, you’re going to feel like a little grease ball.”

“Basically it’s the same as your foundation, you’re going to do the opposite of your skin type,” she said.

‘So my skin type is very dry, so I’m going to make sure there’s a lot of moisture under my foundation.’

Marchand also recommended letting the moisturizer sit on the skin for five minutes before moving on to the next step.

After the five minutes were up, she went in with her foundation and applied it to her cheeks, chin, forehead and nose.

“I highly recommend using a foundation brush to blend out your foundation,” the beauty expert advised.

‘Make sure all the bristles are the same height, and it’s also very nice if they come out at a slight angle.’

She showed two different types of foundation brushes, an angled version from BK in size 101, and a flat brush from Sigma in size F80.

Using the Sigma brush, Marchand went in to blend the foundation.

“I’m going to start tapping this,” she said.

“If you’re really aggressive with your foundation, it will end up looking messy and not giving you coverage,” Marchand continued, demonstrating what not to do as she dragged her foundation brush across her cheeks. .

Marchand also instructed viewers to make sure they were tapping into the foundation rather than dragging it around

At the end of the clip, Marchand showed viewers the finished product and explained that this is what you want your foundation to look like

Marchand explained that her tapping method ensures that you get the maximum coverage from your foundation.

However, if you want a lighter foundation look, she demonstrated that you can simply “tap” the product with the brush and then “pull” the brush in a downward motion.

“Basically, the lighter you go with your foundation, the more coverage you get,” the pro offered.

“The more aggressive you are, the lighter the coverage will be.”

The makeup artist also warned viewers not to apply too much foundation to the forehead, as people often don’t need much on that part of the face.

She also explained that she wouldn’t be applying foundation under the eyes, leaving that work for a concealer.

“Basically, the lighter you are with your foundation, the more coverage you get,” the professional says in the video clip

In the comments section of her video, many users seemed to quite appreciate the foundation tips

These tips, she promised, will help transform the look of your foundation.

“If you use the tips I just showed you, your foundation should look like this every day,” she concluded.

“It shouldn’t be cakey, it shouldn’t separate. If that happens, it means you chose the wrong product for your face.”

In the comments section of her video, many users seemed to appreciate her tips, especially as some revealed that they had problems with foundation in the past.

‘You are great. I can’t find a good foundation. I’ve been there so far and they are tired and can’t find good coverage or color for me. I wish I could take you to the store lol,” one person wrote.

Another agreed: ‘This is so clever, I feel like I thought of that combination too because you usually end up applying a matte powder so why not start with a shiny one.’

‘This has helped so much!!!! And you simplified everything beautifully,” someone else wrote.
