- Chris Mcllroy of lawn experts The Grass People said there are four key steps
While summer is the perfect time to invite friends over for a garden party and fire up the barbecue, your lawn can suffer in the process.
Luckily, a garden expert has shared his top tips on how to get your lawn back in top condition.
Chris Mcllroy from lawn expert The Grass People says there are four key steps you should take when it comes to caring for the grass in your garden.
And his first piece of advice takes some effort.

Speak with The ExpressMr McIlroy said: ‘Keeping your lawn in top condition during the summer is not easy, as higher temperatures and less rainfall take their toll.
‘It is normal for grass to wilt, patchy and turn brown during heat waves as it enters a dormant state, but all is not lost.
“The first step I would recommend is to rake the surface and remove any visible dead grass.”
‘Then it is important to aerate the soil so that it can breathe. You can do this by making holes in the soil with an aerator or pitchfork so that water and nutrients can reach deeper.’
The third tip the garden expert gives to landscapers is to reseed their lawns.
Although this step may seem counterintuitive, overseeding a lawn is an excellent way to grow a healthy, weed-free lawn.

If your garden is looking dull at the moment, don’t worry. There’s still time to transform your garden. That’s thanks to the advice of Leicestershire lawn expert Jack Skilling, who took to TikTok to share how to bring your lawn back to life.
Jack said one of the most important steps in bringing his green space back to life was watering it daily for four weeks.
‘The same process is completely possible with your lawn, so in four weeks [it] “It could look like this too,” he said.
It is important to water your lawn every day. If the soil in your garden remains dry for a few days, this can affect the growth of the grass. This can ultimately lead to the grass growing less quickly if it does not get enough water.
