An Irish traveler took to social media to talk about her childhood.
Nicky Harty, from Dublin, revealed that her upbringing was not as strict as that of other girls in her community.
The mother of two took her TikTok @nickyharty20 to share a clip explaining that he was allowed to go to college and clubbing.
In the video, which racked up an impressive 106,000 views and nearly 8,000 likes, Nicky also admitted that she was “tucked out of bed to go to school” every day while other commuters “parents don’t really care.” whether they are in school or not. .’
Making an iced coffee on camera while talking about her upbringing, she said, “I’m back with another iced coffee video, but we have something else to add. On TikTok I see a lot of people engaged in the travel community.”
‘Every time I go live, people ask “are you a traveler?” That is the most frequently asked question.
So I thought I’d do a little recap on my upbringing as a traveler while I make my iced coffee.
‘First of all, my parents are complete Irish travelers, which makes me a complete traveller, for those who ask daily.
“Growing up, I literally had to get out of bed to go to school. I see a lot of English travelers here, their parents don’t really care if they’re in school or not, whether it’s homeschooling, basically they’d lean more towards that, but they ripped me out of that bed.
‘I remember being about 16 years old and still being told to get up and go to Youth Reach. The day I left Youth Reach it was a shock because I thought that my mother and father would not accept it at all.
Then after Youth Reach, I was allowed to go to university; many traveling girls are not allowed to continue their education, which I think is just strange. Weird shit.
‘Like why you wouldn’t want your child to succeed, you know?’
Nicky explained that even though she was practically dragged to school, her parents gave her liberties that other traveling girls didn’t.

She continued: ‘When I was younger I was allowed to go out but I always had to have my phone with me and say where I was.
“I definitely had a fun upbringing, I was strict in a way, but not to the point where my life was a mess and I hated it.”
“I was able to do things that maybe a lot of other traveling girls couldn’t and I thank my mom and dad for the freedom they gave me because I wouldn’t want to be one of those strict parents.”
“I could have sleepovers, but I would always have to bring that girl and that girl’s mom to the door and say ‘yes, it’s confirmed.'”
“I also used to go to the teen clubs, that was something I was allowed to do and I know a lot of travelers aren’t.
‘But come on, we all need a little fun in our lives, that doesn’t make us less of a traveler.
Nicky’s video clearly impressed many people who rushed to comments to praise his honesty.
‘It doesn’t mean we’re dirty or whatever, as many would say. In my family, we are allowed to be with the settled community or a traveler and that’s it.
