I’m an interior designer – here’s a genius hack for hanging Christmas garland without damaging your walls

An interior designer has shared a tip for hanging Christmas garlands without ruining your walls with tape or nails.

The interior designer named Wendy — who has amassed more than 540,000 followers on TikTok for sharing countless tips and tricks to improve your living space under the username @thekwendyhome — left millions of people across the internet in awe when she posted a video detailing the details of the method earlier this month.

In the video, which has been viewed a whopping 13.7 million times, Wendy explained that she had discovered a way to hang fake plants for the holidays that was super easy and “damage-free.”

She revealed that all you need is a shower or curtain rod, some garland and a string of Christmas lights to put a festive twist on your home.

“This is how you hang your garland without drilling holes,” she began in the TikTok, holding up a gold shower curtain to the camera.

She explained that you had to place the rod between two walls in an entryway. Then you 'drape and wrap' the garland around the post.

“You may need two sets of streamers for a fuller look,” she added. 'Don't forget to fluff your garland.

'Then weave twinkle lights into the garland and add any accent ornaments. Bring your rod to the desired height and tighten it. Turn on your twinkling lights and enjoy the magic.”

Wendy then showed off the finished product: a dazzling array of green mixed with gold lights hanging above her doorway.

After her video went viral, thousands of others started trying the method themselves and uploading the results to TikTok.

Ashley Stringfellow, who runs a 'décor and DIY' blog called Modern Glam, used the hack in her home and was 'obsessed' with the results.

“I used four mismatched faux streamers, a 13-foot string of stargazers, and a curtain rod,” she explained on Instagram. 'I'm quite obsessed.

'One tip I have is to alternate the direction in which you wrap your crank around the bar. In my opinion, this gave it a lighter and more natural look.'

Many people took to the comments section of Wendy's video to praise her for the advice.

“I could cry, this is brilliant,” one person gushed. “I hate hanging up my garland, but this is so much easier.”

“When the Christmas cocktails start flowing, you can drop it for a drunken game of Limbo and hope Aunt Susan doesn't throw her out again,” someone else joked.
