Amy explained that she gets LinkedIn notifications on her phone and will respond if they catch her eye

She noted that she gets LinkedIn notifications on her phone and will respond if they catch her attention.

“So if you DM the head of HR or the head of a department or the head of recruiting, they might reply right away,” she explained.

“I got messages at 2 p.m. on a Saturday when I was at a winery, and I thought, ‘I love this message.'”

Amy said the most effective way to articulate your message is to say, “I’m so and so.” This is what I do. This is what I’m passionate about, and this is what excites me about the open role you have. Are you the right person for me to contact? Could you put me through?’

If she gets messages that stand out, she’ll reach out to the head of recruiting and say, “Hey, so-and-so on LinkedIn sent me the message.” I forwarded it to you. Have you called them back yet?’

“People have gotten jobs that way. So keep it up. Keep your cool DMing,” she advised. “You just don’t know, it could work.”

Amy’s video has been viewed 3.3 million times and a number of people commented on how sending a cold DM helped them get a job. However, some recruiters found it ‘annoying’

Amy’s video has been viewed 3.3 million times and received more than 1,600 comments from people who shared their views.

‘I’ve had 200 applicants for one position before. Anyone who found out I was the hiring manager and DMed me had their application reviewed,” one person shared.

‘Yes! Recruiter here who gets a lot of DMs. The ones that stand out are the ones that are personalized to the role/company. Help make renting easy [you],’ someone else replied.

Another added, “This is exactly how I got my dream job!”

However, the advice seemed hit and miss. Some commenters claimed it never worked for them, while other HR professionals thought it was a letdown.

‘I work in HR at a large university. If someone did this, our recruiters would be so annoyed and would deliberately ignore you,” one viewer commented.
