I’m an American woman living in London… this is what shocked me most about your dressing sense in Britain

An American woman living in London has revealed what has shocked her most about our dress sense.

Aurora Loftona management consultant from Virginia who moved to Britain two years ago uploaded a clamp against TikTok about the transatlantic differences in corporate clothing.

She claimed that Britons always wear neutral clothes to work, unlike the lighter outfits of her colleagues in her native country, the US.

Many Americans were stunned by her observations, while the British called on the London resident to bring more color to the capital.

Aurora Lofton, a management consultant from Virginia who moved to the big smoke a few years ago, uploaded a clip about the differences in business equipment

She started the clip: ‘I’m an American girl living and working in London and one of the differences I’ve noticed in the office culture is that there is a specific color palette when it comes to British corporate wear.’

Pointing to her body she said, “You’re wearing gray, or white, black, or dark navy, maybe a light blue and that’s it.

“Maybe, like a beige color, there are specific colors and that’s it. I hardly ever see color on the streets of the financial district or when I go out’.

She joked, “They all had a meeting, these are the colors, these are the five colors, and those are the only colors people wear.”

Furthermore: ‘While at home people weren’t wearing eccentric colors all the time, there was just a wider palette of options to wear to work’.

The consultant added: ‘I even have some nice colors upstairs, they haven’t even seen the light of day yet.

‘Ever since I moved to this country, I’ve been wearing these kinds of colors and to be honest, I can respect it. It’s a muted, simple, chic vibe.”

Of her 63,000 viewers, some were shocked to hear the sartorial expectations on this side of the Atlantic, while others asked Aurora to be brave and wear some color.

One user said: ‘Everything about Britain is just so boring’, while another tried to shed some light on the reason: ‘It starts with our school uniforms’.

Another shared observations with Aurora: ‘The way every businessman at Bank wears the exact same blue suit and white shirt…’

Another user said: ‘This! and if you wear jackets, they are usually black!

‘The good thing about Britain is that they don’t really care if you wear different colours; you just stand out from the crowd.”

One added: ‘Generally British people tend to wear dark colored clothes, no idea why but see when you’re next in a crowd.’

Others urged the content creator to “please bring some color” and “imagine us a nice pink or yellow color, which will loosen up us Brits.”

Someone even told Aurora she was “in the wrong industry” and others admitted they were still wearing bright clothes.

‘Not me! I’m always in color and prints in my office and I’m a big girl,” said one, and another seemed to disagree with her observation and asked her if she has been to Notting Hill Carnival, infamous for its to colour.
