I’m an American living in Sydney and nothing has surprised me more than this single detail in Aussie airports
An American living in Sydney couldn’t believe how ‘easy’ it is to fly domestically in Australia.
Logan Wein traveled to Melbourne for the Australian Open and was shocked when he was not asked for ID by airport security.
“Flying domestically in Australia is so easy compared to the United States,” he said in a TikTok video.
After arriving at the airport, he claimed he got through security “in 90 seconds.”
“They don’t check your ID before going through security, they don’t check your boarding pass,” he said.
“It’s just so strange to me because the US is obviously much stricter when it comes to flying – whether domestic or international.”
American expat Logan Wein was traveling from Sydney to Melbourne and was surprised at how ‘easy’ it is to travel inland in Australia. After arriving at the airport, he claimed he cleared security “in 90 seconds.”
Logan was stunned again after boarding the plane and finding his seat.
“When I got on the plane, they didn’t even check for ID or anything, I just showed them the boarding pass,” he said in a second video.
“So basically any man with my boarding pass could have gotten on this flight, and that amazes me.”
‘Aussies – I apologize for being annoying, but this surprises me. I’ve been to many countries, but this is new to me.’

Logan’s first video has since racked up more than 332,000 views and sparked a conversation in the comments.
“They don’t check ID or boarding pass before security because you can get to the gate even if you’re not traveling,” one person wrote.
However, this is not the case for international flights, only for domestic flights.
Many also said he would have a different experience flying overseas to and from Australia as security is much tighter.
Someone else wrote: ‘I know here in New Zealand some domestic flights don’t even have to go through security.’
Others noted how “tough” and “aggressive” US security is compared to Australia.
‘Traveling in the United States gives me anxiety. I was held at LAX for an hour because I left my Kindle in my bag. There was a line and they don’t care,” one person wrote.
“Our security team is so much nicer than the US. Why are they so aggressive there?’ another added.
