An American woman who tried English mustard for the first time surprised viewers when she quickly discovered that when it comes to the fiery classic condiment, less is truly more.
Desarae, van PennsylvaniaVS, is a content creator and cookbook author who regularly shares recipes, food reviews and challenges with her 600,000 followers on TikTok.
In a video uploaded to her account @cooking_comedy_chaos in March, the food lover thought she’d try out and review an English condiment she’d never had before.
Armed with a jar of Coleman’s Mustard – a classic staple that was founded in Norwich in 1814 – the intrepid foodie set out to make a ham and mustard sandwich in her kitchen.
In the footage, she confidently declared: ‘I’ve been told about 5,000 times to be very careful because it’s super spicy, but I like spicy so I’m not going to be as careful as all my British friends wanted that I was. ‘

Desarae has decided to try the seasoning by making a ham and mustard sandwich, prepares a slice of white bread and whisks a teaspoon.
Ignoring countless warnings, Desarae scooped a generous amount of the strong mustard with the teaspoon, spreading it thickly over a slice of white bread as if it were butter or jam.
Satisfied with her creation, she topped it with sliced ham and folded the slice into a more concentrated sandwich.
The moment she took a bite, Desarae’s eyes widen in surprise, before she grabs a glass of water to gulp down, wondering if there is horseradish in the mustard.
As tears streamed down her face and she struggled to catch her breath, the intensity of the mustard became all too apparent – but undeterred, she went in for another bite.
She said, “My nasal passages have been cleared. I can’t be mad at anyone but me. That is the problem. It has a fire flavor, and I will definitely go back for another bite because it tastes so good.”
Despite the spicy surprise, Desarae’s enthusiasm remained unscathed, earning her the admiration of thousands of her British audience.
