As we hurriedly rummage through our sock drawer each morning, desperately trying to find a matching pair, we wonder where the heck they all went — but a TikToker seems to have solved the mystery.
Renea, an appliance repair technician based in Salt Lake City, shared a video about it TikTok explained exactly where socks disappear during the wash cycle.
In the clip, which has been viewed more than 18 million times, she claimed it’s not due to forgetfulness — the washing machine actually swallows them.
The video shows her using a chisel to remove the back panel of the washing machine.
Once the panel is off, the inside of the washing machine is completely full of strange socks.

When I took out the stack and put the socks on the floor, it was clear that the machine had been collecting strange socks for some time.
Many were jokingly shocked, they owed their clothes dryer an apology for blaming that for years.
One person wrote, “All those years joking about how ‘the dryer eats ’em.”
Another said, “We should all apologize to the dryer.”
While another quipped, “Are my Tupperware lids in there too?”
Others were completely shocked because they always thought it was an old wives tale.

Renea’s revelation comes after a smart mom also revealed on TikTok the best way to clean your washing machine with just two ingredients.
Jen Watson, a mother of five from the US, revealed on her TikTok page titled OrganizedAndSimplified4u that a mixture of baking soda and vinegar can clean the edge of the washing machine in just one cycle.
In the short clip, Jen pulled back the rubber part of the door in a washing machine to reveal all the accumulated scum and grime before recommending adding baking soda and white wine vinegar.
She applied about two tablespoons of the powder directly to the mess, then poured it over the liquid so that the mixture immediately began to bubble.
Jen quickly closed the door, put the machine on a rinse and watched the cheap and easy solution do its job.
As soon as it was over, the mother pulled back the rubber liner to reveal that it was now spick and span and clean enough for all your delicates.
