I’m a waitress and I screamed at kids dining at my restaurant – the parents were livid but was I really in the wrong?

A catering worker has been ridiculed by the parents of several unruly children after she scolded them for misbehaving in the restaurant where she worked.

The outraged parents demanded that the waitress be fired for shouting at the children who were running around and almost knocking over a tray full of hot drinks.

The woman thinks she may have overreacted, but said she had the right to tell the children to be careful and behave.

She explained that she was working a busy shift at the large restaurant where she works when a large family of seven adults and five children came in for lunch.

“These kids were rioting, yelling and screaming, playing what I thought was tag. I was carrying a large tray of hot drinks when one of the kids buzzed past me,” the waitress recalled.

“The parents hadn’t said anything at this point, even though their kids had been running around for the past thirty minutes. One of them already started having a fit and tried to undress.’

The waiter almost had another confrontation with one of the children when she brought hot drinks to another table.

“I yelled at the kids and told them to either sit at their table and shut up or stay outside so they wouldn’t get hurt if they ran into us with our hot drinks,” she said.

‘I understand I could have been more polite, but there were about a hundred people in the restaurant at the time and they almost ran into me with boiling pots of tea.’

She said the parents were “furious,” the child she was scolding started crying and the family complained to her manager that she was “rude,” causing her to get into “a lot of trouble.”

“They wanted me fired for trying to discipline their children. “I understand what I said wasn’t right, but at least it prevented their child from getting third degree burns from a pot of tea,” she said.

The woman shared her dilemma in a Reddit post, admitting that she was a little too “hot-headed” with the kids, but claims she had the right to tell them off.

One user sided with her, saying, “I guarantee if the child had bumped into you and you dropped hot drinks on them and they got burned as a result, the restaurant would have had a lawsuit from the parents.”

“You didn’t do anything wrong, except you were too patient. Your manager, the parents and the children all need to be spanked!’ joked for a moment.

‘When will such parents be more responsible and able to discipline their children in public?! It’s not difficult. You did the right thing,” a third agreed.

Others said she should not have lost her temper with the family and instead said a polite word.

“You should have said something to the parents or asked your manager before you reached boiling point,” one person wrote.

“My point is, it’s best to bite your tongue these days,” another added.

However, the waitress noted, “My manager had talked to them before, the parents said they would talk to their kids…they never did and then started bitching about my manager.”
