She made one TikTokwhich got almost 75,000 views where she talked all about how to get more bang for your buck.

“First hack, the phone is your friend, this is going to be a running theme. Instead of booking online, which is very tempting, you can always call the hotel directly and ask for their best rate.

‘They often match and even better the rate, sometimes they also offer you an upgrade on the spot.

Kate then reveals her second hack, which is to arrive late at your hotel, as she’s found it will work to your advantage.

The frugal person said she found that the later she arrived for her business trips, the more likely she was to be upgraded to a better room or even a suite.

She said, “That’s because they know they’re not going to sell it, so they might as well give you a better experience.”

“So if you can, the later you go, the more likely you are to get a free upgrade.”

Kate then revealed her latest tip, which will help those who missed their chance to cancel their accommodation.

She told her followers, “The last one is if you missed the cancellation period, super annoying, you don’t want to pay that full fee.

‘First try to move your reservation to a much later date and then cancel it.

“Often you can avoid the cancellation fee or paying the full room rate altogether.”

Users took to the comments to discuss the video, with some disagreeing with one of her tips.

Someone wrote: ‘The later you arrive, the worse the room you normally get, especially when the hotel is busy.

“We tend to use the best rooms first.”

Another said: ‘Check out air B&B can be so much cheaper than a hotel.’

Kate then replied, “Yes! Love air bnb – great way to get more space and some travel tips too!’

A third wrote: “Thank you.”

A fourth asked Kate, “How do you politely ask for an upgrade and how do you know it’s free?”

She then wrote back, “Tricky! You can politely find fault with your current room and ask to move.

Mentioning a special occasion can also be good. Or just ask directly!’
