A woman who dresses like a 1950s housewife and says that being a traditional housewife is the best job she’s ever had, but she’s still a feminist.
Lisa Pontius, 35, of Charleston, South Carolina, loves being a stay-at-home mom to her three young children and is heavily influenced by the style of the ’50s and ’60s.
Lisa and her husband Matthew, 40, a business owner, have their traditional gender roles in the home, and Lisa loves her full-time job as a stay-at-home mom.
But she will proudly express her feminist views on the world and insist that people stop belittling housework around the house.
Being criticized for looking like a ‘grandma’ with her vintage look and told that she dresses ‘too old’, Lisa ignores the comments and regularly posts outfit videos for her followers.

Lisa explained, “I think the way I dress sets me apart from other moms my age, which is good sometimes but can also be bad.” There’s always a way mothers tend to dress, and I don’t dress like that.
“I guess it makes it harder for people to reach out to me and make other mom friends. I have made many friends through social media.
‘I’ve found people who know me for me and I’m going this way instead of going out into the street and into the playground.
‘I like to consider myself a modern feminist housewife, I love what I do now. I also loved being an entrepreneur before I had my kids, so it took me a while to adjust to this role. It’s harder than people think, hit your identity.
“I think that women should not be forced to be at home, but it is a job that has certain requirements and not everyone can do that. However, it’s my favorite job I’ve ever had.
Lisa, who loves to dress in vintage fashion, said other moms find it hard to relate to her and it’s easier for her to make friends online.
After having her son Levi and her two other children, Lisa gave up her business career.

Lisa relaxing after finishing the housework. She said that she believes in traditional gender roles and says that her household is successful because her husband goes out to work and she runs the household.
‘I believe that traditional gender roles and dividing them help to have a successful home. There is a need for domestic work, such as raising children, and running the household is a job that needs to be done and is a full-time job.
‘The reason my husband and I work so well is because of how we treat each other.
“I chose to be a housewife and a traditional housewife and I think I made the right choices for myself, and I also understand that this is not for everyone and that women can make that decision for themselves and that is what modern feminism is. “.
‘It’s important to be able to go out and get a paycheck and financially support your family, but so are all the other things that need to be done in a household. If a woman is also a financial contributor, the labor in the household should be 50/50. The work you do at home is just as important as going out and getting a paycheck.

Lisa said she was told she’d look better if she wore less makeup, but she’s determined to keep doing things her way.
‘Since I became a father, my perspective on everything has changed.
Lisa has had some comments online telling her that she dresses too old and looks like a granny, but she likes being described as ‘vintage’.
She added: “I was told that I look like a grandmother, but women, no matter what they wear, are criticized for how they dress.” They tell me that I dress too old and that I am too young, they criticize me for how I do my hair and makeup because it makes me look old, and they tell me that I would look better with less makeup.
“I just think wear what you want and feel comfortable. I tend to be more covered compared to the current Gen Z trend, so people will say I look old, but I don’t mind being described as vintage and chic.
“Social media puts pressure on women to dress and look a certain way – people always felt they had the right to comment on women’s bodies and styles and how to exist – it’s the internet’s version of cat calls .
I’ve had quite a bit of hate, which can be overwhelming, so reading the messages is hard mentally, but I also know that the hateful comments will be forgotten after a few days.
“I have always been an old soul on the inside, I have always liked antiques, old houses and vintage jewelry. My grandmother would be my inspiration.
