A therapist has revealed the four things that might seem like great chemistry in a relationship, but are the complete opposite.
Jeff Guntherfrom Portland, Oregon, has become a viral sensation on TikTok for regularly sharing his relationship expertise.
He recently posted a video for his 2.6 million followers explaining what is often confused with attraction.
The love specialist explained that while these instances may feel like you and your partner have a spark, it’s a sign that you two aren’t as compatible as you might think.

The therapist has become a viral sensation on TikTok as he often shares his expertise in the love and romance departments
Most recently, he posted a video for his 2.6 million followers detailing the common confusion about what attracts you to your crush — starting with physical attraction
He captioned the viral clip, which has been viewed more than 2.6 million times, “Four things that look like relationship chemistry, but aren’t.”
The first false indication of chemistry he revealed was physical attraction, which he said he knew was a “curveball.”
“You might think it’s real chemistry to find someone super hot,” he said.
He continued, “Physical attraction can sometimes be so strong that it feels like there’s more going on beneath the surface, when in reality there isn’t.”
The therapist noted that to have real chemistry, you have to be connected both physically and emotionally.
The second sign he described was “the thrill of the forbidden.”
“Dating someone you shouldn’t be with is so taboo, and it’s so enticing.
“This may feel like chemistry, but it’s often more about the excitement of doing something outside the norm or going against the odds.
“This kind of ‘chemistry’ can disappear once the forbidden act is removed,” he explained.
He then said that the sensation of the forbidden and shared trauma are also false indications and do not mean love
Finally, Jeff joked that you and the “barista who always remembers your order” have no chemistry, and it’s just “good customer service”
Jeff’s third indication that it’s not real chemistry is when you and your partner have “shared trauma.”
He explained that being emotionally vulnerable with someone on an intense level and both having dealt with the same things can create false attraction.
“The intense feelings of connection that can arise when two people have gone through similar traumatic experiences can be a lot like chemistry, but it’s important to distinguish between shared empathy and true romantic chemistry,” he explained.
Jeff added that if you’ve been through the same things, you can understand each other better, it’s not a sign of love.
Finally, Jeff joked that you and the “barista who always remembers your order” have no chemistry, and it’s just “good customer service.”
