I’m a psychologist and men don’t realise this common ‘habit’ is considered cheating

A psychologist has explained why a common habit of most men is 'ruining' their relationships – and the simple two-second solution.

Sadia Khan claimed that several of her clients take issue with the man 'liking' social media photos that other women post – leading to jealousy, insecurity and a lack of trust in their partners. Thousands claim the act counts as “cheating.”

Many agree that it is also disrespectful because the woman whose photo was 'liked' now knows that the boyfriend has a 'wandering eye'.

The London relationship coach specializes in helping couples deal with interpersonal issues, and claimed the 'harmless' habit can lead to resentment and ultimately a break-up.

Ms. Khan recently went on a podcast and spoke to a man who didn't realize the consequences of his actions.

“If you're in a relationship and like other girls' photos, I initially thought it was nothing, but I underestimated how much damage that would do [my girlfriend],' he said.

He continued, “If she's scrolling through social media and she sees that I've liked a photo of a girl who's half-naked, of course she's not going to like that.

'When I see that she likes a picture of a topless man, it drives me crazy. If you have a relationship in real life, you should also have a relationship on social media.”

Ms Khan said: 'It wouldn't cost you anything not to tap into your relationship and save it – it's not a big ask.'

She explained that men don't like to feel controlled and will counter that their partners are just “insecure.”

'But [having an issue with] “Women posting provocative photos and men liking provocative photos is not insecure, but recognizing that it is an invitation to something you don't want to invite into your relationship,” the professional said.

Many women shared their thoughts on this.

“I think it's so disrespectful when men do this,” one person said.

'It's even worse if it's someone he knows personally. Other women know what it means,” wrote another.

“Many believe that infidelity is only possible through physical contact, but that is not true,” one woman argued. 'You can also be unfaithful in your heart. Everything starts there.'

But other guys on Reddit disagreed.

“The reality is that Instagram is definitely not real life, every guy likes pictures of hot girls and it has nothing to do with loyalty or loving your girlfriend,” the man wrote.

“Men can't avoid other women for the rest of their lives and if liking photos makes you jealous, you need to reevaluate the source of your insecurities,” said another.
