I’m a pro makeup artist – these are the three beauty products I would NEVER spend money on

A professional make-up artist has revealed the top three cosmetic products she would never buy – and revealed that some of them can actually make your skin look much worse.

Selena Marchand, from Nova Scotia, Canada, has been working in the industry for 16 years and focuses mainly on ‘bridal and beauty makeup’, sharing her daily life on TikTok, as well as her tips, tricks and secrets to help you look even more beautiful beautiful.

Go to TikTokthe first product she claimed was a “waste of money” was primers, because they could have terrible effects on your entire look, according to Marchand, who has more than 481,000 followers on her page.

“You’re wasting your money if you use primers,” she began. ‘Unless you’re using primers for a specific problem, such as oily skin, they’re a waste of money.’

Normally, primers are applied before applying foundation or a tinted moisturizer to smooth the skin and give it a perfect look.

“A lot of times, primers can actually make your makeup look worse, and that’s not what we want,” she continued. “I just wouldn’t put it under my foundation if I were you.”

The next product, she warned, was one that the makeup artist thinks just doesn’t work – and that’s setting spray.

“I’m sorry to tell you, but setting sprays don’t do anything,” Marchand revealed in the clip.

“Setting sprays may feel nice on your skin, but they don’t do anything to hold your makeup.”

“A lot of setting sprays claim to keep your makeup in place all day, and I’m sorry, they’re just lying to you,” she added, showing off several photos of setting sprays from cult-favorite brands like Urban Decay and Morphe in the video.

Setting sprays are usually the finishing touch to any full-face makeup look, as they promise to lock in the products and prevent them from running or moving.

“A lot of these can make your makeup look terrible if you use too much of it,” she said.

As an example in her video of what a setting spray looks like, she included a photo of the ‘All Nighter’ spray from cult favorite brand Urban Decay

Marchand suggested purchasing a miniature size mascara, explaining that full-size mascara can be “expensive,” especially since you have to throw it away after three months.

‘If you put on your make-up poorly and use a setting spray, it won’t do anything.

“A lot of these can make your makeup look terrible if you use too much of it,” she said.

Last but not least, Marchand cautioned against spending money on full-size mascara because it has an extremely short shelf life.

“Full-size mascaras are a waste of money,” she said, showing a photo of Benefit’s popular pink ‘Roller Lash’ mascara in the clip.

“Honestly, full-size mascaras harbor bacteria and you should only use them for about three months.”

“The chance that you will use the entire bottle within three months is quite small,” the makeup artist continued.

“Full-size mascaras are expensive, and you just don’t use them enough to make them worth the money.”

“Complete mascaras are expensive, and you just don’t use them enough to make them worth the money,” she said in the clip

In the comments section of Marchand’s TikTok video, some users took issue with her edgy shots

One user dramatically typed: “My whole life is a lie,” accompanied by a shocked emoji face

In an exclusive chat with DailyMail.com, Marchand also shared a surprising tip on choosing the most flawless foundation for your skin.

“For foundation, choose the opposite of your skin type,” she said.

“So if you’re oily, you’ll want a matte foundation, and if you’re dry, you’ll want to buy a more luminous foundation.”

However, despite her extensive expertise, a fiery debate erupted among some users in the comments section as a handful seemed to disagree with her views.

“I disagree about primers and setting spray… I notice a big difference when I don’t use them… but I agree about the mascara… I love your videos,” one user typed.

Another agreed, writing: ‘If I didn’t use them my makeup would slide down to my knees and I have dry skin. LOL.’

‘Completely wrong with setting sprays. My skin literally eats makeup with the spray, it’s perfect all day long!’ claimed one fanatic.

“My whole life is a lie,” someone else chimed in.

Another TikTok user suggested: ‘Everyone is different, they don’t work for me at all!’
