A GP has revealed her top three tips to ensure you avoid that unfortunate duck lip look when going for treatment.
Maggie Hartz is a lead physician assistant at a plastic surgeon’s office on the Upper East Side of New York City who specializes in both facial balancing and injectables, and often shares her expertise on both TikTok and Instagram.
In a TikTok video Shared last month, Hartz explained the three things you should ask for during your lip filler appointment to prevent the injections from looking fake and ‘pillowy’, with one of the most important things being to maintain the natural integrity of your lip shape .
“Ask for an enhancement to your natural shape,” Hartz said simply.

The first tip Hartz offered was to make sure you don’t go against your natural lip shape when getting lip filler

“You don’t want to ask for something that goes against your natural anatomy because it will look fake,” she continued.

Lip augmentations also ranked fifth among the top cosmetic minimally invasive procedures this year, along with neuromodulator injections, soft tissue fillers/HA fillers, skin resurfacing and skin treatments such as Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) treatments.
Last but not least, Hartz’s final tip was to make sure you have photos showing the injector on lips you both like and dislike.
“Number three is the most important,” Hartz said.
She suggested you ask the person doing your filler, “Can I show you pictures of lips I really like and lips I don’t like, and can you show me some before and afters you’ve done?” that are similar to what you did? can I expect my results?’
“This way you can make sure you and your healthcare provider are on the same page before you get the shot,” she explained.
Lip fillers usually last about a year to 18 months, according to Cleveland Clinic.
