I’m a Longevity Expert — Here Are the 3 Science-Backed Supplements I Take to Keep My Skin and Brain Young

Over the past year, the latest health trends have had one goal: turn back the clock and put an end to one of life’s greatest risks: aging.

Each week, a different supplement, injection or drink is spotlighted that promises to reveal the secret of eternal youth.

But do they actually deliver these benefits?

Dr Mohammed Enayat’s day job is in Lewisham, where he works as a GP for the NHS. But his second job is at HUM2N, a space age biohacking clinic in South Kensington.

The longevity expert takes a whole cocktail of supplements to give his body the boost it needs.

Here he shares which supplements he specifically takes for longevity and a healthy brain and skin.

NAD+

Dr. Enayat gives NAD+ injections to increase energy levels and even strengthen the immune system.

NAD+ injections are believed to help combat age-related changes by stimulating the repair of damaged tissue and promoting the production of new healthy cells, both in the skin and throughout the body.

It stands for nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide. This molecule is found in every cell of your body and is responsible for creating energy and keeping the cell healthy.

A 2018 judgement suggested that increasing NAD+ levels could help combat accelerated aging and slow the progression of age-related diseases.

Dr. Enayat claims that as we age, the amount of NAD+ in our bodies decreases.

He adds that there is a lot of evidence to show that the decline starts as early as age 20.

‘NAD+ plays a very important role in cellular energy production and the activation of proteins and pathways that extend lifespan and help repair cells and tissues, including DNA,’ he told MailOnline.

According to Dr. Enayat, the supplement helps the mitochondria, the powerhouse of cells that are vital for energy production and various bodily processes. This, in turn, can help your body produce more cellular energy and repair DNA better, making your cells “healthier.”

He chooses to have the supplement injected under his skin, but it is also available in pill form and as an infusion, which he sells in his clinic for £250 per session.

He added: ‘I notice a noticeable effect from the injections, my concentration increases and I feel more energetic.

“For me, it’s not just about longevity, it’s also about what makes me feel better in the short term.”

Magnesium

After testing hundreds of patients in his clinic and finding that about 80 percent of them had low magnesium levels, he now added it to his daily dose of vitamins.

The metallic element, mainly found in bones, is essential for life.

You can get it from nutrient-dense foods such as nuts, seeds, mackerel, and bananas.

According to Dr. Enayat, it is good for your bones and your cognitive brain.

He adds that low magnesium levels can be associated with “poor sleep, nervousness, muscle cramps and twitching.”

Dr. Enayat added that magnesium is vital for bone mineral density and that a deficiency has been linked to thinner bones.

This is supported by NHS advice, which states that a magnesium test can be offered to someone with symptoms such as nausea, weakness, muscle twitching, cramps and an irregular heartbeat.

It has been shown to be essential for brain, bone and heart health.

A 2019 studywhich followed more than 6,000 women over 65 for 20 years, found that adequate magnesium levels were associated with a lower risk of developing mild cognitive impairment.

Another 2018 judgement found that people with higher magnesium consumption had a lower risk of heart disease.

Dr. Enayat added that magnesium is essential for bone mineral density and a deficiency has been linked to thinner bones.

Protein powder and collagen

Proteins are essential for the growth and repair of the body.

That’s why Dr. Enayat adds it to his longevity supplements.

Enzymes in the body are all made up of proteins. They break down food, help replicate DNA, and destroy toxins in the liver.

But our muscles are also made up mostly of protein. Our hair, nails, bones and skin also depend on protein to function and grow.

Although it is found in beans, legumes, fish, eggs and meat, the lifeguard says he takes it when he knows he is not getting enough through his diet.

Our muscles are also made up mostly of protein, just like our hair, nails, bones and skin, and they depend on it to work and grow.

“I take collagen protein powder, not every day, but mainly on the days I know I’m going to get less protein,” he said.

“I alternate between different types of proteins,” he added.

‘I’ll be doing beef collagen and collagen peptide proteins for a while and then some split pea protein powder, which is really good for the digestive system.

‘If I want to build muscle mass, I take a whey-based protein diet.’

He explains that he does this for a period of three months to prevent an ‘inflammatory response’ from developing.

“If you get too much exposure to things, you eventually become sensitive to them. Sensitivity causes an inflammatory response, which takes away your energy and makes you feel less than optimal,” he said.

Dr. Enayat stresses that while these supplements are ideal for him, people should first have a blood test to determine what nutrients their body needs before trying different supplements.
