A former secret agent has revealed how to spot a liar, telling people there are nine tell-tale signs to look out for.

Tracy Walder, from Dallas, Texas, is a former CIA officer and FBI special agent who worked as a spy for several years, including at a counter-terrorism center during 9/11.

After making several trips abroad on confidential missions, including as an undercover agent, she decided to exchange field work for justice in the United States, where she worked for national security in Texas.

However, this hasn’t stopped the 44-year-old from sharing her knowledge on Instagram, amassing 10,300 followers as she reveals tips you can implement in your everyday life.

She said: “I worked in the CIA for five years and then became a special agent in the FBI, which is very rare for a woman. I started two weeks after graduating in June 2000.

“I was tired – I loved the counter-terrorism missions, but I didn’t want to be abroad anymore.”

When she was undercover, it was essential that Tracy could spot liars, allowing her to avoid deadly situations.

Now she shares her top tips for getting to the truth, with nine telltale signs to look out for.

First, you should be aware of people who use tears to avoid explanation, talk excessively but don’t share specific details, or explain too much.

Tracy said, “They (the liar) can move through emotions extremely quickly, going from calm to overwhelmed to crying.

“This will happen if they feel trapped in their lie or are private. They may try to isolate individuals to coordinate their stories.

‘No specific descriptions, yet copious use of words to explain things, while lacking details.

‘It seems like they talk a lot, but no details are given. Avoid eye contact.

‘Extremely exaggerated explanations of simple things and examples.’
