  • A podiatrist told us how to keep your toenails healthy and how to trim them properly

A podiatrist has warned of a common method of toenail clipping that can lead to painful consequences.

The professional, based in Singapore, shared the advice on his TikTok account @paulthepodotherapist to more than 15,000 followers.

The caption read, “If you’re clipping your toenails the wrong way, stop doing it today.”

“If not already, this will lead to an ingrown toenail and they can cost you hundreds to thousands of dollars!”

“Save yourself time, money, and pain by clipping your toenails correctly.”

Paul went into more detail about how not to cut your toenails and then demonstrated how to properly perform the personal care task.

He shared a photo of a toenail with a rounded shape that had the toenail cut along the edges and said, “Please, please don’t cut your toenails like this.”

“It’s only going to lead to more problems.”

He then showed the proper technique that will lead to healthy toenails.

Paul then showed the proper technique and told his followers to use clippers instead of nail guns or scissors.

Then he advised, “Pinch your nail in little clips right over the nail.”

“And then file the corner like this,” he said, showing how to get rid of the sharp edges by filing in a downward motion.

He concluded: ‘Here we go, it’s as simple as that.’

The video has since been viewed more than 300,000 times and has been saved and shared hundreds of times by people interested in changing their toenail clipping habits.

Many people have listened to the trusted advice, one user shared in the comments, “Yes, agree, 100% You will end up with growing nails. NO FUN.’

Another user said, “Can confirm!”

Another agreed: “I do the same with my fingernails and toenails — very comfortable.”

Some users are hesitant to try the method claiming that the first way did not cause them any problems.

One person commented, “Ewww no thanks. I cut them nicely.’

Another claimed, “I’ve done mine all my life and never had any problems, so why change now?”
