I’m a flight attendant and this is the one shoe trick travellers need

I am a flight attendant and that is why you should always leave a shoe in your hotel room safe when you travel.

One flight attendant took to TikTok to share six game-changing hotel hacks she thinks will make traveling that much easier.

Esther Sturrus, who works for the Dutch airline KLM, has stayed in hotels around the world and regularly updates her TikTok followers of more than 150,000 people with ways to make traveling easier.

And now the flight attendant from the Netherlands has revealed her most peculiar hack yet: leaving one of your shoes in your hotel room safe.

Many people are afraid to leave their valuables in the room safe in case they forget it when they leave.

In a hotel hack compilation video, Esther said: ‘Are you worried about forgetting something in your locker? Put your heel or shoe in and you won’t forget it.

The theory behind this is that you will never leave the room without both shoes. And if you’re bringing more than one pair, just swap it out for a jacket or coat—something you’d never go without.

One of her followers commented: “The heel shoe trick is a great idea.”

Other hacks included pinning blackout curtains along with a hanger where there are gaps and using a hotel shower cap to cover shoes when packing them in a suitcase.

Esther said that by putting your shoe in the hotel safe you'll make sure you don't forget anything in it.

Travelers commented that it was a “really cool” and “clever” trick, as these are some of the most irritating aspects of staying in a hotel.

Covering your shoes with a shower cap in particular is a useful way to protect your clothes from dirt when you go back to packing.

As an alternative, the shower cap can also be used as a cover for the remote control. This is ‘very useful’ as ‘those things are dirty’, Esther explained.

The flight attendant’s next trick was to use her USB cable and charge her devices on the TV, if she found herself without a world travel plug or one that doesn’t work.

Esther also shared other hacks, like putting dirty shoes in the hotel room's free shower caps to protect clothes from dirt.

Cover the remote control with a shower cap if it is dirty

Secure the curtains with a hanger if there are gaps

Esther said you can also cover the remote with a shower cap if they’re dirty and also hold the curtains up with a hanger if there are gaps.

Finally, he said that it is not necessary to use the room key for electricity and instead, guests ‘can also use any other card for this’.

Flight attendant Miguel Muñoz previously shared with Express.es some of his favorite hotel hacks and said he never goes to a hotel without his own ‘cup, salt and pepper, my own set of bamboo cutlery and coffee sachets’ as ‘some hotels don’t give you anything’.

As for packing a suitcase, he explained that packing cubes are essential for him, as he always packs his clothes in these small compartments.

He said: ‘I organize all my clothes by day, but you can do what works best for you. This is especially useful if you are moving or changing hotels.’

Miguel also said that he takes his largest jacket or sweater to travel so it doesn’t take up space in his suitcase, and he rolls his underwear and socks into his sneakers to save space, along with any fragile things he might have.
