I’m a flight attendant and these are the three surprising things you should buy from the hardware store for your next holiday
Before you head to the airport for your next vacation, consider making a pit stop at a hardware store, this flight attendant suggests.
Cicia TikToker who works as a flight attendant for a ‘major airline’, made a video we reveal three surprisingly useful items you can buy at any DIY store during your travels.
In the images, which has refurbished so far 596,000 views, the 51-year-old Florida resident demonstrates how to use everyday items: bungee cords, shoe covers and carabiners, the metal loops often used by mountain climbers.
The shoe covers are easy to use upon passing through airport security, Cici, who goes by the TikTok handle “Cici In The Sky,” reveals.
She places a pair of blue plastic shoe covers over her feet and explains, “When you go through the TSA (Transportation Security Administration), youJust take off your shoes, put them on and walk through the security scanner germ-free.”

The savvy traveler, who has 374,200 TikTok followers, also suggests using the shoe covers “to protect your clothes” in your suitcase.
They can also be “placed on your feet in your hotel room if you’re concerned about germs,” she adds.
If you don’t have time to pick up shoe covers, shower caps work too, Cici reveals, saying, ‘That’s what I do, I take all the shower caps from the rooms and I use them too.’
Bungee cords, meanwhile, can be threaded through the handle of your suitcase to secure all your bags and travel items in one place, Cici reveals.
“Attach your pillow to your luggage,” she suggests.
“If for some reason your handle breaks, attach it here and just drag it,” she says, threading the cord through a smaller handle on the suitcase and holding it at both ends to pull it along.
But those who try this hack should be careful, as Cici warns that the springy cords often cause eye injuries.
Cici turns her attention to carabiners, noting that these devices come in handy once you get on the plane.
She says: ‘Use this to attach your water bottle to your bag so it doesn’t fall on people’s heads when you put it in the overhead bin. It’s happened a lot.’

Cici recommends that travelers use carabiners to attach their water bottles to their bags so that “they don’t fall on people’s heads when they put them in the overhead bin.”
Many viewers thanked the cabin crew member for the post and welcomed her tips.
‘Alissa’ wrote: ‘The shoe covers… it’s so clever. That always drives me crazy.’
Globetrotter ‘shenanigans305’ said: ‘I used to travel by plane across Europe twice a week for work and am now learning these tips from you. I travel for fun now and will take advantage of it.”
Fellow ‘Leisure Lifestyle’ airline employee said: ‘I’m a flight attendant and I learned something here.’
Regarding Cici’s advice on carabiners, user ‘Bort’ added: ‘I’ll never forget my bottle falling out and hitting some poor man in the head. I definitely need a bottle carabiner when I travel.”
Others commented on it the video suggested even more DIY items to take on vacation.
User ‘Jefiner’ suggested getting a ‘rubber door stop for the hotel room’ while ‘Pinky’ commented: ‘Put tea lights in your luggage for the hotel bathroom. This way you don’t have to turn on the bright light (when using the bathroom at night).’
And “Melanie” said, “I always wear two pairs of socks through TSA so I can remove the outer pair afterwards.”
In another recent TikTok video, Cici revealed why passengers should never fly on the day of an important event like a wedding or birthday.
‘I can’t tell you how many people on my flights have missed important appointments due to delays, and it’s just not worth it. Always fly the day before,” she says in the clip, which has been viewed 79,700 times.
