I’m a female solo traveller and these are the five countries where I’ve felt most safe – but not everyone agrees

While solo travel is a fun and adventurous experience, it also comes with its own risks, especially as a woman.

Although the industry is changing and more young women are becoming confident enough to go it alone, things can go wrong quickly and whether you feel confident or not can make or break your trip.

Sharing her knowledge, a travel influencer shared the five places she felt most confident and would recommend to others.

of video posted by Chloe Jade has over 33,000 likes, with commenters sharing their suggestions.

It comes after the TikToker previously highlighted four places where she felt unsafe as a female traveller.

Ben

Benin is the first place Chloe felt safe as a woman, explaining that transport is not a problem as ‘it’s really easy to get around by motorbike, taxi or hitchhiking.

She added: “I felt very safe in the markets and the food is really good.

“Everyone is just super super nice, warm energy and I felt comfortable the whole time.”

The pro-traveler included videos of herself riding the streets on a motorbike and meeting locals.

Saudi Arabia

Next on the list is Saudi Arabia, with Chloe saying she felt safe there, despite hearing rumors before she arrived.

She said: “I heard a lot about this country before I went and I don’t want to minimize or ignore all the human rights abuses that continue to happen to international workers, but as a woman I felt extremely safe here.

Adding ‘I must say as a foreign woman traveler. Nobody ever bothered me and I didn’t mind crime at all.’

However, some viewers were shocked by the recommendation, with one user writing ‘Saudi Arabia really? Interestingly, people told me it wasn’t. Good to know.

Another agreed with Chloe, saying: “I felt very safe in Saudi Arabia. Everyone was so kind and so respectful. Men really don’t bother you. Never have they been treated with so much respect as a woman’.

Philippines

Another favorite for the TikToker is the Philippines, where she shared videos of herself riding a motorcycle, eating fruit and swimming in a waterfall.

She told viewers ‘I’ve been going on and on about how much I love the Philippines.

‘Filipinos are some of the most welcoming, friendly and fun to generalize about a country.

“I feel safe walking at night. I have never been in an uncomfortable situation. The only thing I would say here is if you’re going to be around a lot of foreigners, that’s your only risk because obviously foreigners come from other countries and they’re unpredictable.’

Bangladesh

Fourth on the list of countries she felt safest is Bangladesh.

She explained: “Just the enthusiasm that locals have to meet foreigners because they want to show you their country is super warm.”

“The whole time I was in Bangladesh, I felt like people were trying to take care of me, make sure I got where I needed to go and enjoy myself in the process.”

However, there were many comments that disagreed with her judgment.

Someone wrote ‘Haha I love this for you! But as a Bangladeshi woman who grew up and lived in Bangladesh for 19 years, I have never felt safe being a woman.’

Another added “I’m shocked by Bangladeshi on the list, as a Bengali myself it’s quite unsafe but for foreigners they tend to be kind of nice, please stay safe while visiting.”

RWANDA

Finally, the TikToker also recommended Rwanda as somewhere she felt safe.

She said: “I feel like most people who haven’t been to many parts of the African continent are always surprised by Rwanda.

The coffee is really good in Rwanda, the roads are incredible in Rwanda, there are many programs for women in Rwanda.

“Getting around Kigali on a motorbike is very easy and you feel incredibly safe as a woman.”

She closes the video by warning ‘Now I can’t speak for everyone’s experience in all these places, but these were just a few places where I felt very safe and at home.’

Adding to the caption ‘I feel I should point out that travel is very subjective and these are just my experiences.

“Everyone is treated differently based on how they look and where they are from. It’s the sad reality.

“Overall, these places made me feel safe in terms of my belongings not being stolen, people being kind, security at night, etc.

“There are many things to feel comfortable and safe on a trip. But my number 1 tip is to always use your intuition.’
