I’m a female flight attendant and these are my top tips to avoid hotel burglaries

For anxious travelers, a female flight attendant has revealed her top safety tips for avoiding hotel room break-ins.

Cici, 51, of Florida, using the handle @cici.inthesky on social media, regularly posts security hacks because she says room burglaries are more common than people suspect.

In one of her TikToks, the travel pro reveals how to put an ironing board against the door as a makeshift deterrent against burglars.

She explains, “You can just grab your ironing board, put it against the door and ‘bam’, if someone tries to come in, you’ll hear it loud and clear.”

Her other impromptu safety hacks include blocking the peephole with tissue paper and using two coat hangers connected together from the latch and door handle to prevent the lever from being pushed all the way down.

If you have more time to prepare for your trip, Cici recommends investing in an alarmed door wedge that retails for about $10 on Amazon.

She usually puts one under the main door of the hotel and takes another one in case there’s an adjoining room to navigate.

To prepare for a fire, Cici recommends counting the number of steps from your room to the stairwell in case it’s too dark or smoky to see.

In another cutscene, the savvy traveler shows how she always checks hotel rooms before entering and while doing so leaves the door open with her luggage.

She says this is because rooms may not be free as the hotel staff double book the same room.

The travel pro explains, “I’ve had multiple situations and I know people have had different situations.

“One time I walked into a hotel room that was already occupied when I had my kids and the man yelled and drove us all crazy.

“Then I discovered how normal it is apparently for them to double book a room.”

After settling into her room, Cici always uses her security hacks to make sure the door won’t open easily.

Cici says she began to feel unsafe in hotels after she “discovered how easily someone could break into my room” and “simple methods can be used to get in.”

In addition to thieves targeting hotel rooms, Cici says it’s common for hotel staff to enter rooms without permission.

She recalled an unpleasant incident and said, “Another time, a housekeeper came into my room while I was taking a shower, which again scared me.

“I didn’t have the bolt in my room.”

Another commenter said they use Cici’s ironing board trick, but if there isn’t an ironing board in their room, they use the luggage rack instead.

A viewer revealed that they were given an alarmed door wedge on Cici’s advice, but forgot that they put it under their door and accidentally activated it themselves.
