I’m a cleaning influencer – here’s how to decontaminate your washing machine (and it should be done MUCH more often than you think)
A cleaning enthusiast has revealed how often your washing machine needs to be cleaned – and that’s more regularly than you might think.
Jessica May, a cleaning influencer from Norfolk, East Anglia, made a video for her TikTok followers sharing the importance of proper cleaning.
Jessica says it’s recommended to clean your washing machine once a month because it helps prevent the growth of bacteria, bad odors, and residue.
She started the 48-second video by taking out the detergent drawer and placing it in a container of warm, soapy water.

Then, with a sponge, she wiped off all the dirty brown residue that had accumulated during the washes.
She then showed how dirty the inside of the machine is when the tray is removed and used Flash baking soda or baking soda to clean it.
After a few sprays, Jessica used an electric brush cleaning device to scrub the inside of the machine.
She sprayed the inside of the drum with the same spray before wiping it down with a cloth.

The cleaning guru captioned her video: “An easy way to clean the drum of your washing machine is to run a hot wash with a capful of white vinegar and a scoop of baking soda.”
She then took a separate sponge to wipe the inside of the washing machine drum’s rubber flap – usually where garments get stuck or dirt and residue build up.
Jessica then placed a cloth on the floor of her kitchen before removing the filter from the machine – which released water and some dirt.

Jessica tells her followers not to forget to take out the filter and give it a good clean as well
Then she puts some washing machine cleaning powder in her detergent drawer and puts the machine on a wash cycle
She wrote, “Don’t forget to clean your filter.”
Then she put the filter in warm soapy water to clean it before putting it back in the machine.
After drying the washing machine drawer compartment, she put this back in the machine as well.
