A group of Championship team fans repeatedly shouted ‘she’s getting s****ed in the jungle’ from the stands. The comments were heard during a live report of the match on Sky Sports.

They took place when Watford – where Sir Elton John is honorary chairman – played at Plymouth’s Home Park stadium.

Meanwhile, Watford supporters shared images on X – formerly known as Twitter. One wrote: ‘Watford fans singing about Coleen Rooney in Plymouth tonight.’ The user @rio_woolf ended his post with a laughing emoji.

Female football fans were outraged by the chants, which were repeated several times during the match.

One person told MailOnline: ‘It was disgusting, what a horrible thing to say about Coleen just because their team was playing her husband’s team.

“It looks like something from the 1970s, it’s so misogynistic.”

Another fan watching at home with his teenage children was angry when he heard the insults on television.

Rooney, who took over as manager of the Devon side at the start of the season, was ecstatic when his side scored a last-minute equalizer to make it a 2-2 draw against high-flying Watford.

A source close to the Rooneys said: ‘With Coleen heading into the jungle, both she and Wayne knew their relationship would be scrutinized and talked about a lot.
