I’m A Celebrity star Maura Higgins goes for important health screening before leaving for Australia after she was revealed as part of the line-up

Maura Higgins revealed she had to undergo an important health screening just weeks before hitting the jungle for I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here.

The Love Island USA Aftersun presenter, 33, shared with fans that she had been for a routine smear test, as she encouraged them to make appointments too.

Maura shared a quick photo from her appointment and wrote: ‘Swab test day! This is your important reminder to get yours [praying hands]’.

It was previously reported that I’m A Celebrity bosses had set their sights on Maura after boxer Tommy Fury pulled out at the last minute.

ITV now looked to Molly-Mae’s best friend Maura, 33, to take his place in the jungle as bosses banked on the Irish beauty talking about her boyfriend.

A source said The sun: ‘With Tommy Fury pulling out, show bosses were given the chance to look at other Love Island stars and Maura stood out as the perfect candidate.

‘She will bring a bit of glamor to the jungle and be a brilliant campmate as she has a great sense of humor and gets along with everyone.

‘It promises to be a strong year for women on I’m A Celebrity this year.’

With Tommy out of the running, this would have paved the way for Maura’s appearance on the show as it meant there would be no two stars from the 2019 series of the famous jungle dating show.

Maura shared her preparations for her jungle look, posting an Instagram story earlier this week of her getting toenails painted at a salon.

The TV presenter wasn’t the only potential campmate to prepare for their arrival with beauty treatments, as Coleen Rooney and Tulisa also received beauty treatments.

On Tuesday, Coleen looked fantastic as she stepped out of Hale on Tuesday before heading to Australia.

The WAG, 38, was clearly preparing for the hit ITV show as she showed off her radiant look by wearing minimal make-up during the outing.

Her outing came hours after her reported campmate Tulisa revealed the shocking results of her latest cosmetic procedure.

The N-Dubz singer, 36, shared on her Instagram Stories that she had the outline of her lips tattooed and that they looked quite swollen.

Showing off the completed look to her followers, the hitmaker wrote: ‘I tattooed the lips to match the eyebrows, couldn’t help it.’

She further clarified that they are “swollen” at the moment, but “they will go down and the color will soften.”

Finally, she tagged the clinic, based in Altrincham, Cheshire, and wrote: ‘@cosmetic_tattoo_clinic loves this and the eyebrows have held in sooooo well.’

It looks like Tulisa will be bringing glamor to the jungle as she showed off her already tattooed eyebrows and long eyelash extensions in the short video.

Earlier in the day she was seen preparing for the camping experience as she got her nails done for the final time at Skylar Nails in Alderly Edge.

Meanwhile, Maura Higgins also appeared to be preparing for the jungle when she shared an Instagram story of herself getting toenails painted at a salon on Tuesday.

Celebrities are not allowed to take makeup into the jungle with cosmetic products that are considered contraband.

And Coleen and Tulisa aren’t the first stars to prepare for the jungle after Katie Price put her hair in cornrows for the show in 2004.

Meanwhile, Charlene White admitted in 2022 that she had beauty treatments before entering camp as she prepared to go makeup-free.

She said: ‘As you can see I’ve had my hair done and my eyebrows done, they’re still a bit sore. I’ve had things done to my eyelashes. I did what young people do when it comes to wandering around without makeup.”

In 2017, Georgia ‘Toff’ Toffolo was allowed to break the no-makeup rule after eagle-eyed viewers suspected early on that she was wearing foundation.

Toff later confirmed this producers agreed to let her apply a thin layer of foundation every morning to even out her acne-prone skin, which she says has damaged her self-confidence for years.

Toff, who was also taking medication to tackle the problem, said she burst into tears when she realized she had to leave her make-up bag behind.

It comes after it was revealed it was Coleen who will be keeping an eye on her.

Rebekah Vardy will be losing sleep over Coleen’s appearance on I’m a Celebrity – and her Wagatha Christie lawyers will be keeping a close eye on what her rival says, experts told MailOnline on Monday.

Coleen is rumored to earn at least £1.5million by signing up for the ITV primetime hit, presented by Ant and Dec.

The show starts in Australia in two weeks and Coleen’s decision to go has been described as the ‘ultimate revenge’ on her rival as Rebekah was eliminated early in the 2017 series.

Rebekah would ultimately lose the case and is currently arguing over how much of her rival's massive legal fees she should pay

The news comes after it was revealed that Coleen will be watching her by Rebekah Vardy’s lawyers, who will listen to any defamatory comments.

A source close to Leicester City WAG Rebekah has claimed she has now lost interest in the program – and certainly won’t be watching.

But an expert told MailOnline today that Rebekah will be ‘glued’ to ITV and watching everything Coleen says about her. Another source has said that Vardy’s legal team will also be watching like hawks.

Brand and culture expert Nick Ede believes Rebekah would be prepared to launch a new lawsuit if Coleen says ‘anything that could potentially discredit her’.

But while Coleen knows ITV wants her to ‘talk more about the Wagatha Christie case and their rivalry’, she will have been carefully coached by her lawyers about what she can and cannot say before heading into the jungle, says Mr Ede.

“100% Rebekah will not be happy about Coleen going on the show,” he said.

‘She will keep her eyes and ears glued to the screen in case she can collect nuggets from Coleen that could potentially discredit her.

‘Famously, Rebekah herself has gone into the jungle and the fact that Coleen will follow in her footsteps will add insult to injury.

“Coleen is a very private person, so if she agrees to this will and shows up in the jungle, producers will want her to reveal more about the Wagatha Christie case.”

Mr Ede said Coleen will speak out, but added: ‘She is a very careful speaker and so will make sure she rehearses all answers to questions campmates may quiz her on.

‘She doesn’t want to deal with any more problems or court letters from Vardy’s camp.’

Coleen and Tulisa will reportedly star in a hit reality show alongside Maura Higgins, longtime soap star Alan Halsall and legendary sportsman Barry McGuigan.

Completing the line-up are Strictly Come Dancing pro Oti Mabuse, Loose Women star Jane Moore, DJ Dean McCullough, Tulisa, radio presenter Melvin Odoom, Reverend Richard Coles and podcast presenter GK Barry.

When contacted by MailOnline, an ITV representative said: ‘Any name suggested for I’m A Celebrity…Get me out of here! are just speculations.’
