Wayne Rooney missed Friday night’s episode I’m a celebrity… Get me out of here! while he was busy guiding his Plymouth side to a dramatic 2-2 draw with Watford in the Championship.

The former England striker saw his side move up to 17th place as they twice came from behind to rescue a point thanks to a 96th-minute equalizer from Andre Gray.

Gray had already struck a stunning volley in the 23rd minute to cancel out Vakoun Bayo’s ninth-minute opener, before Ryan Porteous put Watford back in front from close range.

But the Jamaican, who was reviled by the Watford fans after a five-year spell at Vicarage Road between 2017 and 2022, had the last laugh as he rifled home a late equalizer.

His curling effort fired into the top corner as Plymouth struck in stoppage time for the fifth time in the last six home games, prompting jubilant celebrations from Rooney on the touchline.

Meanwhile, his wife Coleen was 10,000 miles away in the Australian jungle writing her own headlines. The 38-year-old mother of four quickly suspected other contestants were being deceitful, reminding viewers of her £3million lawsuit with Jamie Vardy’s wife Rebekah.

Coleen Rooney made headlines with I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here as fans hilariously highlighted her clever detective skills

Wayne and Coleen, who have four children together, are having to get used to being separated while he is in Plymouth while the rest of the family lives in Cheshire.

Fans dubbed Coleen the ultimate sleuth as one wrote on X: ‘Coleen Rooney better than MI6 that woman #ImACeleb’.

Rooney may have grown accustomed to his wife’s absence by now as his family live in Cheshire, 260 miles from his rented seaside flat in Plymouth. The 38-year-old can often be found in local bars on his nights off as the stress of managing his side in a relegation battle seems overwhelming.

Nevertheless, tonight’s result against play-off candidates Watford will do a lot to cheer him up.

Rooney praised Gray after returning to his former club.

He said: ‘André’s second goal was a fantastic goal and the first goal is so difficult in terms of technique.

‘That finish is world class. I wanted to take it off, but decided to leave it on since he has some time.

“Andre has been fantastic since he came to us, a great character in the dressing room. He was a breath of fresh air and I’m happy for him.

‘It’s great to get a point because Watford are a very powerful team.’

Gray scored two brilliant goals in both halves to grab a valuable point for Plymouth

For Watford, which moved to fifth place, it is now only two wins from nine away games.

Hornets boss Tom Cleverley moaned: ‘I don’t quite understand how we didn’t get three points.

“Andre Gray is one of our ex-players and an ex-teammate of mine.

“Sometimes that gives players an extra ten percent and his quality in the final third is what got them a point today.

‘We weren’t clinical enough but I can’t be mad at the players.’
