I’m a celebrity… Get me out of here! fans have slammed the show after a ‘horrific’ challenge left contestant Ellie Cole with a horrific hand injury.

On Tuesday evening, presenters Robert Irwin and Julia Morris watched in horror as the 32-year-old Paralympic swimmer reached through holes filled with boxes of creatures, including snakes and rodents, to retrieve yellow stars.

The first box was full of raw offal – the internal organs of a slaughtered animal – which is considered a delicacy in some cultures.

When Ellie reached into a second box full of rats, one bit and scratched her hand, refusing to let go as she tried to unscrew a star inside.

‘Oh my god, it hurts so much! Ouch!’ she shouted as Robert cowered from above.

The I’m A Celebrity co-hosts were forced to step in and instruct Ellie to move on to the next box.

Viewers took to social media to call out the order of the boxes for the challenge.

‘I [am] actually very annoyed with the producers for doing this in that order. Shocking,” one fan wrote.

“What an absolute weapon, although I hope they don’t let themselves be covered in blood from raw meat and straight to animals again, BRUTAL,” said another.

‘They were clearly biting because her hand smelled like offal. Producers haven’t thought this through!’ one commented.

‘Ellie you are the goat. Very disappointed in the show’s producers and presenters for not taking action sooner.”

‘She was AMAZING. Gosh, I hope her hand doesn’t get infected and she’s had her tetanus shots,” one concerned viewer commented.

After being lowered into the water with a crocodile and collecting two more stars, Ellie was determined to be lifted back up to retrieve the stars from the box of rats.

“Ellie, we can’t guarantee those rats won’t bite you again,” Julia advised.

Viewers took to social media to indicate the order of the show’s boxes for the challenge

This time no rats seemed to defeat the Paralympian and she successfully grabbed both stars, collecting a total of 12 for the challenge.

“You’re a machine!” Julia exclaimed.

“I can’t believe what I just saw,” Robert agreed.
