Get a grip: I’m A Celeb South Africa viewers slammed Paul Burrell, 64, after he ‘annoyingly’ referred to his royal connections during Monday’s opening episode
Quick start: Princess Diana’s former butler took just minutes to mention his late employer in his introductory video (Together in the picture 1997)
Another joked, “I’m Paul Burrell and most people know me because I’m in Lorraine every five minutes talking about Princess Diana.”
A third wrote: “Oh, was Paul Burrell Princess Diana’s butler??? He never mentioned it!’.
With a fourth quip: “Not like Paul Burrell to call Princess Diana.”
Before another ranted, “Paul Burrell mentions Diana one more time to remind us. WE KNOW.’
Later Paul mirrored his shocked expressions from 19 years ago as he got stuck in a challenge in the new All Stars series in South Africa.
Paul took his position in the Hell Holes task and joked, “How lovely for the first challenge of sticking my hand in a hole.”
But within seconds, he started screaming and screaming after realizing it had snakes in it – much to the chagrin of supermodel Janice Dickinson.
When he yelled, “It’s going to bite me,” the TV personality hit back with, “If it doesn’t bite you, I’ll… shut up and find the key!”
Drop name: Later, at his trial, he further stated: ‘This is a far cry from Windsor Castle’
Not impressed: One disgruntled viewer wrote on Twitter, “It took Paul Burrell about 0.55 seconds for him to mention Diana.
But viewers of the program were less than impressed with Paul’s antics, taking to Twitter to accuse him of “being ridiculous” and “exaggerating.”
One wrote: ‘Why is Paul Burrell trying to recreate his 2004 meme? It was funny when it was authentic, but now it’s just forced 😴 #ImACeleb.”
Others added, “Paul Burrell is so exaggerating we’ve seen this act before,” and “Paul Burrell is ridiculous #ImACeleb.”
Two more chimed in with “Paul Burrell definitely put this on #ImACeleb” and “What an actor Paul Burrell is #ImACeleb.”
Here we go again: Paul later threw another bush tucker trial melt, much to the dismay of viewers
Celebs: The All Stars season sees Shaun Ryder, Helen Flanagan, Phil Tufnell, Jordan Banjo, Carol Vorderman, Paul Burrell, Amir Khan, Janice and Fatima Whitbread return to the jungle
Another concluded: “Paul Burrell gives that man an Oscar #imaceleb.”
Fans of I’m A Celebrity all had the same complaint as the South African spin-off shown on ITV viewers’ screens, calling it ‘wrong’.
The show was pre-recorded in Kruger National Park last year and the first episode aired on Monday.
For the first time in 21 years, the show, which kicks off Monday and features an all-star cast, doesn’t end with a Jungle King or Queen — instead with a “Legend.”
The lack of public votes means the stars, including Carol Vorderman, Helen Flanagan and Amir Khan, will be competing against each other and thus not be on their way to royal status – instead they will simply be competing with each other.
A statement from ITV read: ‘Without a public vote, they will go head to head in a battle to become the first ever ‘I’m A Celebrity Legend’.’
