I’m A Celeb South Africa:  Amir Khan is the THIRD person to be evicted after shock secret ballot

Amir Khan on Tuesday became the third person to be evicted from the jungle of I’m A Celeb South Africa after a secret ballot by his campmates.

On Monday’s episode, the campmates learned that, in a dramatic first for the series, they would choose who was voted out of camp next.

And it was the former boxer, 36, who eventually lost his place in the camp after receiving the most votes from his campmates.

Speaking to hosts Ant and Dec after leaving camp, Amir expressed how proud he was of himself after overcoming his fears, noting how he had dealt with a snake during his final ordeal.

He also gushed about his second stint on the ITV show, commenting that it was one of the ‘best experiences I’ve ever had’, adding that it was ‘even better than Australia’.

Time to go: It was the former boxer, 36, who eventually lost his place in the camp after receiving the most votes from his campmates

The sportsman’s voice was no doubt influenced by the fact that he had previously stated that he was ready to leave because he missed his children.

After the vote was revealed, Georgia Toffolo said she felt so “distraught” that her buddy left.

While Janice Dickenson called him a “good egg,” and Paul Burrell added that he was a “trooper.”

After each vote in a secret ballot, the campmates woke up unsatisfied with the prospect of determining who leaves that morning.

Helen Flanagan said of the vote, “You feel bad,” while Georgia Toffolo added, “I’m not happy with my decision. I just felt I had to vote for someone.’

Myleene Klass said, “I’m thinking now, did I do the right thing?”

Amir commented, “This is not a holiday, it’s a competition and there has to be one legend, one winner.”

While Jordan Banjo agreed, “In the end there will only be one winner.”

Reflection: He also gushed about his second stint on the ITV show, commenting that it was one of the ‘best experiences I’ve ever had’, adding that it was ‘even better than Australia’

In an interview after leaving the show, Amir talked about his time on the show, explaining, “It was one of the best experiences I’ve ever had. It’s like being with a new family in South Africa.

“I will always compare it to my first time in Australia, but this one was much better for me. Great camp, the camp mates were great.

‘While I would have liked to stay a little longer, it can sometimes happen that if you stay longer, you stay welcome longer. It was just an amazing experience and I’m just glad I got the chance.’

On what made him love his last experience more, he added, “I think it’s the camp and the people in the camp. I had no idea about the show beforehand.

“I had to go in this time and put on my thinking cap and be strong. This time I couldn’t give up the Trials. It was also a bit of a test for me. I’m afraid of spiders, snakes, heights – and I’ve been through a lot of things.’

Amir also began by suggesting he was ready to leave ahead of the secret ballot, stating that he wanted to leave ‘on a good note’.

He shared, “I didn’t want to see anyone else go and be honest with you. We all had so much fun there. I enjoyed it too. I have given myself the confidence that I can do the Trials.

“I thought, ‘I’m not afraid anymore. I can do this.’ I had impressed myself. I hope people at home say, “Amir made a huge difference for the first time [in camp].”

“I conquered what I wanted. I didn’t want to vote anyone else out. I thought, I’ll be the one to raise my hand. It’s best to leave on a good note than to do something crazy… which I think was coming! Anything could have happened, you can’t stay that long!

‘In the end I do something crazy, I pull a stunt, that’s who I am. I’m just so glad I didn’t do anything stupid like Strawberry-Gate and hopefully people will remember me now that I went to the jungle and said “he’s a good man”.

A long time ago: On Friday’s show, Shaun Ryder and Gillian McKeith became the first stars to leave camp

Amir’s departure comes after Shaun Ryder and Gillian McKeith became the first stars to leave camp.

Shaun, Phil Tufnell, and Andy Whyment left the Savannah Scrub and headed to Main Camp, where they discovered they would be participating in the series’ first survival trial.

Each chose a different celebrity to do it with them, and the losing pair would leave camp for good – with Shaun choosing former nemesis Gillian.

In the process, the couples were handcuffed together and made to remove keys and wrenches from three boxes – filled with creepy critters – in an attempt to free themselves.

However, Gillian refused to put her in the first box because she was afraid of the snakes inside, leading her and Shaun to be the first to leave camp, with fans chanting that the nutritionist “didn’t even try” to win the task.

I’m A Celebrity…South Africa continues tomorrow at 9pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
