A British expat was shocked by a ‘handy’ Australian vehicle he saw doing one of the ‘toughest’ jobs at home.
JZ, from London, has traveled the world and is now trying to build a life on the Gold Coast.
The Queensland resident was casually looking out his window one day when he saw a garbage truck doing something “amazing.”
The truck had a feature where a motorized crane is used to pick up the heavy bins and empty them into the back of the truck.
JZ revealed that the trucks at home in Britain had garbage men who manually empty the garbage bags into the truck.
JZ has one video of the ‘futuristic’ gadget online.
“Why did this surprise me so much?” he asked. “I’m so used to real people doing this work at home.”
Thousands were dismayed that other countries still had garbage collectors.
‘I just found out this isn’t standard! This type of truck was invented in 1969,” one man said.
“We’ve had this in New Zealand since I can remember,” another added.
“Australia has had this for over thirty years. It didn’t occur to me that there are still people doing this by hand in the UK,” wrote a third.

While some explained why the motorized crane is not always an option.
‘I think it depends on the width of the streets. In some parts of Sydney there are garbage collectors who do it by hand, but in other parts they use these trucks,” one woman explained.
‘In Britain it could be a space problem. The streets in Australia are quite wide and you need a lot of legroom to do something like that,” said a second.
