Illinois’ Memorial Stadium catches fire just days before the football team is set to take on Nebraska at home

The University of Illinois Memorial Stadium caught fire on Tuesday, three days before the Fighting Illini were to play Nebraska.

The college alerted the campus Tuesday evening around 8:10 p.m. local time via the Illini-Alert system that there was a two-alarm fire, according to WCIA.

The fire broke out in the southwest corner under the horseshoe and fortunately was outside the spectator areas.

The fire brigade was called to the stadium around 8pm and the fire was quickly brought under control before it was extinguished. No injuries have been reported.

The cause of the fire is currently unknown.
