Fox News host Tucker Carlson says the ongoing ‘chaos’ surrounding Congressional Republicans’ attempt to pick a House Speaker is ‘refreshing’.
House Republicans repeatedly failed Tuesday to pick Rep. Kevin McCarthy to lead the house, creating a split within the party that remains unresolved until Wednesday, when voting resumes.
On his Tuesday night show, Carlson celebrated McCarthy’s ongoing battle with members of his own party, which has so far included three failed rounds of voting and 20 members of his caucus turning against him.
He advised McCarthy to be serious about releasing the January 6 information to the public and to investigate the FBI for corruption if he wants to win the presidency.
Rep. Kevin McCarthy failed three times Tuesday to secure the votes needed to become House speaker.
“The fact that this race has not been resolved thus far is being described especially online by many as ’embarrassing,'” Carlson said.
“It’s shameful if you prefer the Soviet-style consensus of Democratic Party internal elections, where votes are just a formality and all the really important decisions, the significant ones, are made years in advance by donors,” he said.
Carlson argued that the Republicans’ infighting in selecting their leader was a sign of democracy, unlike Democrats, who line up behind a shortlisted candidate time and time again.
But, if you prefer democracy to oligarchy. If you prefer real debates on topics that really matter. It’s quite refreshing to see it. Yeah, it’s a bit chaotic, but this is how it’s supposed to be,” he said.
Furthermore, he criticized McCarthy as a talented politician, but an opportunistic man with little ideological loyalty.
McCarthy is not especially conservative. In fact, he is ideologically agnostic. He is flexible. The real constituency for him is the lobbying community in Washington. So if you have sincere political beliefs, that’s infuriating to watch,” he said.
“On the other hand, to be fair, this is politics and McCarthy has strong points. It’s not easy being president when the House is so divided.
“And in a way, Kevin McCarthy is perfectly prepared for that. He is a political expert. It’s no small thing,’ he added.
With the group of 20 Republicans who have so far denied McCarthy the House presidency yet to field another candidate to lead the House, any path forward is uncertain.
So, Tucker said, there are still moves McCarthy can make to try to secure the top job he’s seeking.
Tucker advised McCarthy to release to the public all documents and videos related to the January 6 breach of the Capitol.
As well as naming Rep. Thomas Massie as head of a new Frank Church committee to uncover increased FBI oversight and corruption.
Carlson said McCarthy must immediately commit to releasing all documents and videos related to the Jan. 6 Capitol breach and subsequent actions by Congress.
He stressed that the information should not be funneled through a congressional committee, or released bit by bit, but should be doubled up in public view.
And he added that McCarthy should commit to appointing Representative Thomas Massie of Kentucky, a staunch libertarian, to head a new Frank Church Committee to investigate FBI corruption.
Frank Church was a Democratic Senator from Idaho who served for several decades over the last century.
In 1975, Church was stunned by what his namesake committee discovered about the massive surveillance state being run by the National Security Agency, an agency most Americans at the time didn’t know existed.
On the agency’s ability to spy on ordinary Americans, he said: “That ability at any moment could be turned against the American people, and no American would have any privacy, such is the ability to monitor everything: phone conversations, telegrams, it doesn’t matter. There would be no place to hide,” he said.
