A former Miss Bolivia has been seized by police on charges of arms trafficking.

Suspect Alondra Mercado Campos, better known to social media followers as Alondra MC, 22, was Miss Bolivia Mundo 2020 and Miss Charm Bolivia 2023.

She regularly treats more than 40,000 Instagram followers to revealing bikini snaps from the beach or wearing figure-hugging evening dresses to VIP events.

But now she is being held in Trinidad's tough women's prison in Beni, northeastern Bolivia, on charges of arms trafficking.

Local media reports that police found significant quantities of weapons and AK-47 assault rifle ammunition at her home.

Campos will be held in pre-trial detention for 30 days until her first court appearance, according to local media.

Forensic tests on her car could also provide evidence of drug charges, prosecutors say.

She reportedly chose to remain silent when she was brought to trial during a court hearing, during which prosecutors asked to keep her in jail.

Her partner, locally named Andrés Vásquez, is currently on the run and wanted for questioning over drug trafficking.

Beni's ministry's deputy prosecutor, Geraldo Balderas, said: “The friend is under investigation for trafficking in controlled substances and is a fugitive.”

Balderas said videos found on a cellphone seized in Campos showed her and her partner at a number of parties with the illegal weapons seized by police.

The investigation is ongoing.
