Idris Elba dresses in traditional African clothing, while attending Ghana’s holy festival

Sabrina Elba was the doting wife on Sunday when she shared a photo of her husband Idris, who was dressed from head to toe in traditional African clothing.

The actor, 50, looked in good spirits as he donned the colorful ensemble and chatted with locals.

Posting her husband’s photo on her Instagram, Sabrina wrote: ‘My African king.’

Idris has spent the last few days traveling through Ghana and even met President Nana Akufo-Addo.

The Luther star was determined to get involved in her visit as she attended Manhyia Palace to celebrate the first Akwasidae of the year, a traditional 40-day occasion held every six weeks in Asanteman.

The festival is held on a Sunday, once every six weeks, but with this being the first of 2023, it marked a grand occasion.

The traditional event glorifies milestones in the history of the Ashanti Kingdom and pays homage to the Ashanti King, Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II and Queen Mother Asantehemaa Nana Konadu Yiadom III.

Idris could be seen embracing the practice, while wearing a Ghanaian kente, a hand-woven ceremonial cloth.

the actor was reportedly followed by a camera crew for an upcoming film he is making to highlight the need for building film studios in the country and attract filmmakers to West Africa.

The successful actor revealed that pre-production is slated for August with principal photography set to begin in December.

Sharing a video of his meeting with the Ghanaian president on his Instagram, Idris said: “We’ve looked at the models of the incredible incentive package in South Africa, obviously, and in Europe, obviously, Greece, Morocco, these are all places where account of the value of the film dollar and have put that policy into play.’

He also told the Ghanaian president that he intends his current film to be a proof of concept.

He said: ‘It would be very beneficial for us to show and make an announcement to the world that Ghana is open for business, these are the steps, the policies are in place and actually bringing a film to our country, and we are going to put our money where our mouth is.’

Idris, who has both Ghanaian and Sierre Leonean lineage, has previously starred in films that speak directly to some of Africa’s struggles, including Beast of no Nation and Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom.

Additionally, Universal Pictures shot the entirety of the Beast movie in South Africa in 2021, with Idris as the lead actor.

Idris has previously illustrated his passion for helping the world’s poorest countries through investment.

Just weeks ago, Idris called for investments to help the world’s poor at the opening ceremony of the World Economic Forum (WEF) annual meeting in Davos on Monday.

The 50-year-old actor cut a sleek figure in a unique gray jacket and white shirt with a black tie.

He was accompanied by his wife Sabrina, 32, who wore the image of elegance in a fitted gray dress.

The Elbas were awarded for their work on environmental conservation, food security and climate change.

Idris called on the summit participants to provide financial support to people affected by food shortages and climate change.

Appeal: A few weeks ago, Idris called for investments to help the world’s poor at the opening ceremony of the World Economic Forum (WEF) annual meeting in Davos.

He said: ‘The poor of this world are not only looking for help and handouts, they are also looking for investment.

‘With greater access to finance, markets, resources, technology and knowledge, we can unlock a different future.

“If massive investment is not made, hunger and poverty will increase, which in turn could fuel social unrest, conflict and migration.”

He added: “We understand the power and change that can come from this room… We can move with agility and speed and your speed is needed now.”

While Sabrina said: ‘Rural communities are filled with young, talented populations and tremendous potential for new and vibrant markets.

Inspirational: The Elba were recognized for their work on environmental conservation, food security and climate change.

“The private sector can play an important role in supporting and sourcing small farmers and ensuring that world leaders continue to invest in holistic ways to combat environmental degradation and rising hunger.

UN Goodwill Ambassadors received the Crystal Award in front of world leaders in government and industry.

Idris’s appearance comes after he shared the official release date for his latest film, Luther: The Fallen Sun.

The actor, who will be playing the lead role, can be seen appearing from a dark shadow in the first dramatic trailer for the film.

Then an ominous voice is heard saying: ‘Something is coming. You see me now?’

It will hit select theaters on February 24, followed by a Netflix release on March 10.
