Idaho man arrested after flying from North Las Vegas to California on a stolen plane

An Idaho man was arrested after stealing a plane from the North Las Vegas airport, flying it more than 100 miles to a Southern California airport and eventually encountering a desert area after officers inquired about the plane.

NORTH LAS VEGAS, Nevada — An Idaho man was arrested after stealing a plane from a hangar in North Las Vegas, flying it more than 100 miles to a Southern California airport and eventually crashing into a desert area after officers inquired about the plane.

The man, who is currently in custody in San Bernardino County, is charged with possession of a stolen aircraft and taking stolen property across state lines after the incident that occurred Saturday, the county sheriff's department said. According to KSNV-TV, additional fees may apply in Nevada.

Officials in North Las Vegas said the man may also have been behind attempted plane burglaries in the previous three days before his arrest, the station said.

The plane was valued at approximately $80,000, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department.
