Iconic TV star reveals she wanted to ‘go after’ Joel Embiid in furious rage

Edie Falco’s most famous role almost went from small-screen infamy to her reality, based on her feelings as a New York sports fan and hatred for Philadelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid.

Falco admitted as a guest on the “Roommates Show,” hosted by Knicks duo Jalen Brunson and Josh Hart, that she wanted to go after Embiid during the New York-Philadelphia playoff series earlier this year.

Her ire for one of the NBA’s best comes from Embiid elbowing Brunson during Game 4 of that Eastern Conference series. The Knicks would eventually get past the 76ers in six games.

The more than 2-meter-tall Embiid fighting the 61-year-old Falco seems a bit ridiculous on paper. New York sports fans are one of a kind.

And maybe no one should ever doubt Carmela Soprano, after everything she’s had to deal with as the wife of a mob boss.

“Joel Embiid, he’s mean,” Falco told Brunson. “He elbowed you in a game last year and I wanted to go after him. I mean, it was that bad. And then I think I’ve seen you guys play since then and you’re all cool with each other. I’m like, “Don’t you have any grudges?”

Brunson made it clear that he didn’t like Embiid’s elbow, but that he harbored no ill will for the Team USA star.

Down the road, Embiid and Brunson could be teammates on the U.S. men’s basketball team at the 2028 Olympics or at an All-Star Game.

The duo plays for the 76ers and Knicks and is also guaranteed to be opponents several times a year before the postseason.

Falco herself won three Emmys for her portrayal of Carmela Soprano, and since the show she has had success in other roles.

There’s no doubt that she’s a huge New York sports fan, and that part of the Sopranos never really made it to the airwaves.
