Iconic 90s band Goo Goo Dolls shock fans as they announce Australian tour… but not everyone is happy
The Goo Goo Dolls have announced their first headline tour in Australia in more than two decades.
The iconic ’90s rock band will begin their Australia Summer Anthem tour in Canberra on February 20, 2025.
The Iris hitmakers will next perform in Sydney, Newcastle, Brisbane, Adelaide and Melbourne.
They will also be supported by Australian pop rock band Thirsty Merc.
Fans of the American rockers took to social media to share their excitement following the exciting announcement.
‘This is the best news ever. I loved you with Matchbox 20,” one fan wrote, referencing the last time the band was in the country.
“GGD my all time favorites, and my Australian favorites Thirsty Merc, what a perfect line up,” wrote another.
‘I saw you with Matchbox in Sydney and thought (like a lot of people, I’m sure) that you had to come back and be the headliner! So happy,” a third user gushed.

However, some fans took issue with the band not venturing beyond the East Coast.
‘Why is Perth missing it?’ one commenter asked pointedly, while another echoed the sentiment, writing: “No Perth?”
Tickets for the tour are available in advance from Wednesday, November 6 at 9:00 AM.
Tickets for the general public can be purchased from Monday, November 11 at 10 a.m. via Ticketek.
The band will also be one of the headline acts at the 2025 Yours and Owls festival in Wollongong on March 1 and March 2, 2025.

The band last visited Australia in February since 2002, when they toured with Matchbox 20.
Singer John Rzeznik formed the Goo Goo Dolls in Buffalo, New York in 1985 with bassist Robby Takac and drummer George Tutuska, who left before the release of their breakthrough album A Boy Named Goo.
The band started out as a covers act before developing a more punk sound with the rather unique name The Sex Maggots.
They rose to prominence in the 1990s thanks to a polished power pop sound reflected on the likes of Iris, Name and Black Balloon.
Drummer Mike Malinin joined the band in 1995, but left in 2013 under dire circumstances.
