Legendary guitarist Dave Mason has cancelled his upcoming US tour after doctors discovered he has a serious heart condition.
The singer-songwriter, who co-founded iconic British rock band Traffic, is undergoing immediate medical treatment after doctors diagnosed the condition during a routine check-up.
The 78-year-old musician was scheduled to tour the United States this fall, through California and Nevada.
However, doctors have advised him to cease all touring activities while he receives treatment.
His team broke the news in an official statement on its website: ‘We regret to inform you that Dave Mason has a serious heart condition which was identified during a routine check and requires immediate attention.

“His team of doctors has advised against any touring activities and as a result we have cancelled his fall tour.”
Dave admitted he was “heartbroken” to cancel his tour and leave his fans in the lurch.
He added: ‘I feel terrible having to cancel these appointments, but it is on doctor’s orders.’
“I’ll be back, better than ever, in 2025.”
The star was scheduled to perform at the Lobero Theatre in Santa Barbara, California on Tuesday, followed by The Canyon in Montclair on Thursday.
The tour was due to end on October 12, but has now been rescheduled to next year, once Dave has fully recovered.
Dave is originally from Worcester and rose to fame after founding the rock band Traffic in the 1960s, along with Steve Winwood, drummer Jim Capaldi and multi-instrumentalist Chris Wood.
However, Dave left the band after the release of their debut album Mr Fantasy in 1967, only to rejoin the band a year later for their next album Traffic.

Dave wrote one of Traffic’s best-known hits, Feelin’ Alright?, which was later covered by many artists, including Joe Cocker, Three Dog Night and The Jackson 5.
After leaving the band again, Dave went on to pursue his own solo career, working with many legendary musicians including Paul McCartney, Jimi Hendrix and Eric Clapton.
Dave and the other members of Traffic were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2004, along with George Harrison, Prince and ZZ Top.
Dave moved to the US permanently in 1971 and lived in the Ojai Valley in California for 16 years. He is also known to have had homes in Nevada and Hawaii.
