US rapper Ice Spice’s ‘entitled’ act at Aussie NYE music festival, sparking outrage from revellers

Partygoers at the New Year’s Eve music festival were outraged after American rapper Ice Spice performed as the headline act for ‘less than six minutes’.

Fans of the 25-year-old artist were already disappointed when she arrived on stage at Brisbane’s Wildlands 25 minutes later on Tuesday night.

Since Ice Spice, whose real name is Isis Naija Gaston, was only allotted a 30-minute window for her performance, hundreds of partygoers hung around, determined to make the most of the remaining five minutes.

Dressed in a bright pink jacket and a long signature bright orange wig, the international star reportedly sang two to three songs before her microphone was cut off.

A stagehand was seen running towards the performer before the stage was quickly cleared.

Ice Spice threw her fans a peace sign and was booed off stage as she marched off stage.

Revelers paid up to $242 to attend the festival at Brisbane Showground, after some traveled six hours to see the rapper perform.

Dozens of attendees expressed their anger online afterwards.

“She gets paid to show up and perform, probably a lot of money, and she’s late? Titled,” someone shouted.

Another said: ‘Real question: does anyone actually like Ice Spice?’

A third commented: ‘Can someone explain to me how/why artists are late for their sets at a festival? They’re usually at the festival all day, so why are they late?’

A fourth added: “That’s embarrassing for Ice Spice, that’s what you get for being late to work,” said another.

Other attendees commented on festival organizers Untitled Group on how they handled the situation.

“Honestly iconic for the organizers to maintain the schedule and not just let her lateness cause everything else to be done later,” one person wrote.

Another said: ‘She’s disrespectful, so good for Wildlands.’

A third wrote: ‘Them pulling the plug on her was iconic.’

Others called for Ice Spice to be axed from the upcoming Wildlands festivals in Perth and Adelaide this weekend

‘Ice Spice will be late for every set in Australia. Take her out of the lineup,” someone said.

Another added: ‘Drop her off in front of the Perth Wildlands and give her place to an Australian artist.

A third wrote: ‘Tell Ice Spice to go home, Perth doesn’t need her.’

Organizer Untitled Group, the same team behind the Beyond the Valley festival, had touted Wildlands as the ‘very best audio and visual experience’.

Other artists included Australian DJ Fisher, electronic duo Chase & Status and German DJ Marlon Hoffstadt.

It’s understood Gaston was just as late for her set at the Beyond the Valley festival in Victoria last Saturday.

Organizers were forced to quickly rearrange the schedule so she could perform.

Untitled Group has yet to make an official statement, but responded to Tuesday night’s saga by replying to a disappointed reveler on Instagram.

“We understand that the delayed arrival of Ice Spice has caused some disappointment,” the company responded.

‘Managing a multi-tiered festival means that we have to be very strict with fixed times.

‘We had a strict 12.30 curfew and had to make sure the final act got on stage on time so everyone could enjoy the countdown to New Year’s Eve.’

Daily Mail Australia has contacted Untitled Group and Ice Spice for comment.
