Ian Wright labels Edinson Cavani a ‘HORRIBLE GUY’ after he hit the VAR monitor as Uruguay crashed out of the World Cup… with Luis Suarez and co. seething after being denied a late penalty that could have saved the ranking.

ITV pundit Ian Wright has criticized Edinson Cavani after the former Paris Saint Germain and Manchester United striker pushed a VAR monitor in frustration at not receiving a late penalty.

Uruguay looked to be sailing into the round of 16 with two first-half goals against Ghana, piling misery on the African side after Andre Ayew’s missed penalty early on, but they were shocked when news emerged that South Korea were beating Portugal .

A late chance seemed to take shape for Uruguay when Cavani himself was brought down by Alidu Seidu inside the box. It looked like a situation from 2010, when Ghana missed a penalty late in extra time to advance to the semifinals of that World Cup, would turn out the other way around, but referee Daniel Siebert dismissed his protests.

Edinson Cavani vented his fury on the pitchside VAR monitor as the Uruguayan players lost their collective cool with the referee.

Like all of Romelu Lukaku’s outbursts of frustration after his losing streak against Croatia, Cavani took his anger out on the team

Footage emerged of Cavani walking towards the locker room, but not before his last public act of frustration took place, when he pushed the VAR monitor.

Speaking on ITV after a drama-filled afternoon, Wright called Cavani a “horrible guy”.

‘Wow, what a horrible guy!’ Wright said.

Onlookers watched uncomfortably as the monitor fell to the ground and Cavani walked away.

Joe Cole echoed his colleague’s thoughts, saying: ‘That’s terrible behaviour. You feel your frustration when you lose football matches, but you have to keep your composure because you have a responsibility.

“The world is watching, the children are watching,” he added. “You can accept a little explosion, but there are four or five players around the referee, it’s not good luck.”

The conclusion of Group H produced some of the most dramatic hours in World Cup history, with Ghana, South Korea and Uruguay advancing at the same time alongside Portugal.

Perhaps the least desired team heading into the final round of group stage matches, South Korea, was the one to triumph, partly thanks to Fernando Santos playing Portugal as the second team.

The excitement of the afternoon was palpable for all to see as Uruguay slowly lost their minds as they realized the reality of the situation.

With Luis Suárez crying on the bench – Uruguay pushed for a third goal that would ensure they put South Korea ahead on goal difference but it didn’t come to pass, with Cavani denied a loud penalty call in added time.

Uruguay players surrounded the referee at the final whistle with several members of the squad receiving yellow cards

Luis Suárez was left in tears at full time after Uruguay’s World Cup fate was sealed.

After Siebert blew the final whistle, all hell broke loose with almost the entire Uruguayan team facing off against the referee. José Giménez tugged on his shirt as substitute goalkeeper Sebastián Sosa poked his finger into his face.

The rather ridiculous situation arose where cameras caught Siebert waving countless yellow flags as the commotion proceeded in unison through the tunnel.

In what is likely to be his last act at the World Cup, Cavani pushed the monitor as chaos reigned around him.
