A woman relives the horrific moment she was struck by lightning while sitting on a Florida beach one morning.
Meredyth Willits was on vacation with her husband when she was suddenly struck by a bolt of lightning and fell to the ground.
The author and psychic medium from Hinsdale, Illinois, described the impact as feeling like “a 300-pound man” had landed on her, leaving her stunned and fearing for her life.
Her husband called 911 and the ambulance arrived on the scene to take her to the emergency room, where Doctors discovered that the left side of her body was no longer functioning at all.
Author and psychic medium Meredyth Willits was on vacation in Florida when she was suddenly struck by lightning.
“It felt like a 300-pound man landed on my head in one second. I knew right away what was happening because I was standing in the middle of the beach and there was no one around except my husband,” Willits shared in a TikTok video.
“I knew there was a chance I might die, and I had no problem with that.”
Willits had difficulty opening her left eye and lost feeling. She could not even move her toes. At first she feared she had suffered a stroke.
Because her body was only temporarily shut down and fears of a stroke had disappeared after scans, Willits was left with persistent symptoms.
She experienced symptoms similar to a concussion and pain in her left shin.
In a video posted to TikTok two weeks after the incident, Willits said she was experiencing an acne-like rash on the back of her head, which she said was where she was struck by lightning. She also said a cyst on her ovary had burst.
Whether these symptoms are directly related to the lightning strike is not entirely clear, as skin rashes and cyst ruptures are not typical symptoms of lightning strikes.
But Willits believes these problems stem from the strike, which causes her body to excrete “toxins,” she explains in the video.
Survivors of a lightning strike may experience a wide range of symptoms.
Survivors often report short-term muscle aches and concussion-like symptoms, such as nausea, headache, memory loss, and dizziness.
Willits reported experiencing a number of unusual symptoms after being struck by lightning, including an acne-like rash and increased psychic abilities.
In the long term, survivors may experience neurological problems, such as difficulty multitasking, chronic forgetfulness, persistent headaches, nerve pain, and even changes in their personality.
But survivors have also reported some unusual symptoms. A Texas man had to relearn how to read and write. Others claimed that being struck by lightning gave them psychic powers.
However, Willits said her own psychic intuition had been “enhanced” by the strike, although there is no scientific evidence that such abilities exist.
About 40 million lightning strikes occur in the U.S. each year. But the chance of getting caught in one is less than one in a million.
However, there are a number of things that can increase the risk of being struck by lightning, such as standing under a tree or using electrical equipment during a storm.
Willits was struck by lightning while enjoying a morning at the beach with her husband.
Immediately after the strike, Willits had difficulty moving or speaking. Her husband began asking her questions to see if she was okay.
Willits tried her best to respond, but became irritated by the barrage of questions. She answered anyway, trying to “keep him calm.”
Death from a lightning strike is rare: according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), 90 percent of all lightning victims survive the disaster.
