Last Friday, a Delta flight from Atlanta to Barcelona was forced to turn around after a passenger on board suffered from diarrhea that “ran throughout the plane.”
The plane landed in Atlanta at 10:40 p.m. and finally resumed its journey to Spain just over five hours later at 3 a.m.
People who were on the now-famous flight have shared details of the horrific journey via social media.
A woman called Dee W on X said her partner was on the run.
In response to a thread about the incident, she wrote: ‘My partner was on that flight! It was pretty bad.
“It seeped down the aisle and smelled awful. The vanilla scented sanitizer used on it only made it smell like vanilla***.

One passenger praised the crew and cleaning staff for the way they handled the situation
“After the plane landed, it was thoroughly cleaned. They didn’t leave until around 2:30 am.’
However, she clarified that the plane was spotless when passengers boarded the plane in the early hours of the morning.
She added: “The flight was met by emergency vehicles and EMTs carried the sick passenger off the plane.
“My partner said the plane was cleaner when they got back on at 2am than the first time they got on. No smell either.’
Another passenger who was on the Airbus A350 plane to Barcelona with his wife said it was a ‘mess’ and needed a whole new carpet, which ended up taking five hours to clean.
The X user, John Hurdt, wrote, “Both my wife and I were on the run. It was a mess.
“The pilots made the right decision to turn around. The ground crew ripped out the carpet and put in a new one.”
He also praised the staff involved in handling the chaos, adding: “Ground crew did an excellent job given the circumstances, as did the attendants and the pilots.”

Xansby Swanson went to tell X that his little brother was also on the run and managed to capture video of the scene
While other passengers would have been frustrated by the inconvenience, one man found the situation very funny
Xansby Swanson told X that his little brother was also on the run and managed to get a video of the scene.
He initially tweeted, “Lil bro was going overseas but his plane had to go back to ATL an hour after the flight because someone was walking up and down the aisle.”
While other passengers would be frustrated by the inconvenience, his little brother found the situation very funny.
He wrote: ‘I have not laughed harder than when he called me at midnight to explain why he was still in America. He said it was the funniest thing he’s ever seen.’
In the video, the camera moves up and down the aisle to show the brown substance all over the carpet, topped with paper towels placed in a cleanup attempt.
Replies to the shocking video were “Imagine the smell” and “This is absolutely insane.”
Marie Beals-Basinger was also on the run with her husband, but luckily the two were in first class so they missed most of the ordeal.
She told DailyMail.com, “My husband and I were on the run. Thank goodness we were in first class so we missed out on the experience.
“We saw Delta crew members running back and forth in protective gear or gloves.
“They told us to get off the plane because they had to do a thorough cleaning and replace the carpet.
“We’re on our way to the Celebrity Reflection. We were afraid we would miss the cruise.

The horrifying experience has led a wave of social media users to claim they will no longer use Delta to fly, fearing they will unknowingly be on the same plane
“We sat at the airport for hours. We are all so exhausted. Finally we were allowed back on the plane. Delta was very accommodating, they provided updates all the time.
“We knew we missed the cruise, we got to the airport and a celebrity was there and picked up all 52 passengers even though we were about 3 hours late.
Addition: ‘It was an experience that I hope no one has to go through. I hope the poor woman who had this experience recovers.”
The horrifying experience has led a wave of social media users to claim they will no longer use Delta to fly, fearing they will unknowingly be on the same plane.
One user commented, “This is the kind of thing that would make me never take Delta again, because how do you EVER know for sure you didn’t get the poop plane if they don’t decommission it???”
Another suggested burning the plane, writing ‘Burn it. I can’t risk flying in a poop plane.’
Someone else expressed concerns about flying with Delta later in the week, tweeting, “I’m flying Delta to Europe on Friday, what if I get the poop plane.”
