I was bullied over my extreme acne- now I’m a beauty influencer

A woman who was bullied for her severe acne has become a beauty influencer and skincare expert.

Courtney Jones, from Killamarsh, Sheffield, has struggled with acne since her teens, but after years of enduring painful pimples she has risen to internet stardom by documenting her skincare journey.

The 21-year-old content creator, who has a million followers on her TikTok @courtneyjones5252 now gives advice to her fans and recommends skin care products.

Courtney developed cystic acne at the age of 15 and felt so depressed that she sometimes didn't want to leave the house.

Accutane is a drug primarily used to treat severe acne, it is also used to prevent certain skin cancers and in the treatment of other cancers.

Besides medications, she also revealed in another TikTok that she has a few other products that she swears by.

Some of these include Cerave's £13 Blemish Control Cleanser and Moisturizing Lotion for £11.50, Acnecide's £9.99 5% Gel Benzoyl Peroxide and Skin Proud's £16.95 Serious Shade SPF50+ sunscreen.

In one of her candid videos, Courtney shared how others who suffer from breakouts can wear makeup without causing a breakout.

'If you have pimples and want to wear make-up, all you have to do is make sure you have the right make-up, there are all kinds of different types of make-up.

'Some of these may make your breakouts worse because that's not the right thing for you. You need to make sure you find the right products for you.

'And at the end of the day, make sure you take it off properly, because if there's any make-up left on it that you haven't washed off properly, it can cause more breakouts.

'So yes, I will continue to wear make-up.

“I don't wear makeup every day, but I will keep putting it on because I've found the right ones for me and they won't break me.”

What is accutane?

Accutane, also known as Isotretinoin, is a medication primarily used to treat severe acne.

Isotretinoin capsules appear to help severe acne by preventing the sebaceous glands near the skin's surface from producing too much sebum (the oily substance naturally produced by your skin)

The drug must be prescribed and monitored by a specialized doctor.

This medicine may have serious side effects, including:

Dry skin, eyes, nose or lips

Sore or dry mouth or throat

Headache

Feeling weak or dizzy

Anxious, aggressive or violent, changes in your mood

Depression

Muscle weakness

Kidney problems

It is best not to drink alcohol while taking isotretinoin capsules as there is a risk of damage to your liver
