A mother of two was literally left speechless when her lips swelled immediately after they dissolved.
Courtney Taaffe, 27, from Cambridgeshire, decided she wanted the 1 milliliter of filler in her lips dissolved.
The young woman went to an unnamed beautician hoping to reduce her pout, but suffered a severe allergic reaction to the solvent.
Courtney then shared one TikTok video in which she recounts her experience, claiming that when she approached the practitioner who injected her with the solvent, she said it was “meant to look like that” and was “normal.”
The esthetician failed to perform a patch test on her client in sufficient time and even tried to convince her that the doctor was wrong, according to Courtney.

The mother-of-two claimed that a beautician, who she did not identify in the video, carried out an allergy patch test less than two minutes before treatment, contrary to British Beauty Council guidelines which advise this should be done at least 48 hours before treatment doing.

The 27-year-old couldn’t even talk at one point, but the unnamed beautician told her it was “normal.”
Two hours after the beauty treatment, things quickly escalated, with the condition of the young mother’s lips becoming dire.
She described them as feeling “like there was air in them, like they were going to pop – and I couldn’t talk.”
The unnamed doctor continued to reassure Courtney via text message that although her face was ‘extremely swollen’ the reaction would subside by the next morning.
They even told the Cambridgeshire woman that the swelling was ‘normal’.
But the 27-year-old soon became concerned because not everything was in order the next morning, as the beautician had promised.
The dramatic difference between Courtney’s swollen face that she woke up with and the swelling the night before is as clear as day.
She said in one TikTok video that now has about 275,100 views: ‘I went to sleep very painfully’.
When she woke up, her face had clearly enlarged and become ‘really inflamed’, ‘red’ and ‘really sore’.
An hour after the beauty treatment, Courtney was no longer able to communicate, saying, “I couldn’t talk right now. I spat and the words weren’t said properly.
‘My tongue had grown quite a bit, so it was quite swollen.’
The 27-year-old’s lips continued to get worse overnight, despite the doctor telling her they were going down. She said her lips felt like they were going to ‘pop’

The mother-of-two revealed just how severe her reaction had become, showing an image of her aggressively swollen face from an upward angle, where her neck could also be seen becoming inflamed.
Concerned about the severe inflammation on her face, Courtney headed to the nearest hospital, where she discovered she was having an allergic reaction.
She said: ‘I’ve never been allergic to anything in my life. I didn’t know what a reaction would look like and what was or wasn’t normal for liposolver.’
According to the young woman, the unknown doctor performed an allergy patch test less than two minutes before the procedure.
In response to a comment, Courtney revealed that the doctor told her she wasn’t allergic, even though the test turned red “immediately.”
To prevent such occurrences, beauty professionals should perform an allergy alert test at least 48 hours before the appointment, according to the British Beauty Council.
Despite advice from doctors and the British Beauty Council, the anonymous doctor was adamant that a patch test should only be carried out ‘just before’ a procedure, leaving Courtney’s bad experience tantamount to ‘a delayed response’.
The anonymous person went so far as to suggest the doctor was wrong, even accusing the young mother of trying to “sabotage” a career she had “built from scratch.”
When Courtney asked for the beauty professional’s details, the woman sent a text saying: ‘Absolutely not, I didn’t do anything wrong, unfortunately your body reacted. Please don’t contact me again.’
The anonymous practitioner added angrily: “You can’t make a claim because YOU had a reaction.”
Courtney was subsequently blocked by the practitioner on text messages and Instagram.
Doctors prescribed the unfortunate beauty client the antihistamine, also known as chlorpheniramine maleate.
Three tablets later, the mother’s swelling decreased significantly, but was not yet back to its original state.

One of them said: ‘I want to get my lips dissolved, but I’m way too scared of this kind of thing. It happens too often.’
