A former Costco employee has revealed the real reason customers have their cards checked every time they enter the store – claiming it actually has nothing to do with ensuring they are verified members.

Majesty, known by his TikTok account, @therealyourmajesty, revealed in a now-viral video why Costco employees always check a customer’s membership card when they enter the bulk goods store.

“I worked here for fifteen years as a manager and buyer,” says Majesty. “When you walk through a door, show your membership card, you will be counted.”

According to Majesty, Costco employees like to track how many people enter the store each day for a number of reasons. They claim that a big part of card counting has to do with ensuring customer satisfaction.

The TikToker, who worked at the department store club chain for 15 years, revealed that Costco employees count the number of customers who show them their membership cards

He explained that chain employees like to keep track of how many people are coming into the store at any given time, so they can ensure the cash registers are adequately staffed to handle the number of people who may be making purchases.

“They want to know how many customers or members are coming in at that time to prepare the registers and make sure they have the right coverage for you,” he said.

However, Majesty admitted that the member counting process is also intended to help the retail chain track its daily sales – allowing employees to measure how many purchases are being made compared to the number of customers entering a location each day.

“They want to make sure they can measure their sales per day by (the number of) members who have shopped,” he continued.

Majesty’s video is the latest in a series of Costco-themed clips he’s posted to his account in recent months — with the former employee revealing in 2022 that the warehouse club chain has its own private jet.

The Costco website indicates that their memberships are available to all eligible individuals who are at least 16 years old.

The chain has the right to refuse membership to anyone and can also terminate membership at any time without giving reasons.

Shoppers must also present a valid photo ID issued by the U.S., Puerto Rico, Canadian federal, state or provincial government during registration.

The contribution applies for a period of twelve months from the date of registration of the member.

It is important to remember that Costco shoppers must renew their memberships and they will not receive new membership cards every year.

Anyone hoping to obtain membership can choose between executive, business and gold star membership.

Each membership is valid worldwide and includes a free household card.

While the executive membership offers additional benefits of select Costco travel products and the company includes a purchase-for-resale option, X users (formerly Twitter) have been applying for the Gold Star membership since January.

Unfortunately, some X users have spoken poorly about some of the products they purchased at Costco, even writing that some of the best items come from Walmart.

“Buy immediately because the spout on the Costco gallons sucks and we spill milk everywhere,” an X user wrote earlier this morning.

Other X users are debating whether or not they should get a membership, with one person suggesting that individuals look into their travel benefits.

“One of you must have a Costco membership,” X user Jack Johnson replied to others’ comments.

“Next time, use Costco Travel and you’ll get a decent rate from a non-shitty car rental company.”
