Last week I celebrated Uber’s 10th anniversary in New Zealand with a unique $2,000 skiing and dining experience. Now you know how to experience it too—for free.
To celebrate its ten-year milestone in Aotearoa, the tech giant is offering its Uber One members the chance to ski (or snowboard) in the beautiful hinterland of Soho Basin, just an hour’s drive from Queenstown.
For years, Soho Basin in New Zealand’s Southern Alps was only open to private bookings, for those who didn’t mind spending a tidy sum to ski in remote, pristine alpine terrain.
But now you can book the unique ski vacation worth $2,000 for free.
The day begins at Rodd & Gunn Lodge in Queenstown, where you will be met by luxury transfer and taken to Soho Basin, a private ski area next to Mount Cadrona.
After a morning snack and a short safety briefing, you will be taken up the mountain by Uber Snowcat (no chairlifts).
The luxurious day doesn’t end here. Lunch on the snowfields includes a premium high-altitude gastronomic experience hosted by the three-star Amisfield restaurant.
Lunch is a rustic meal full of farm-fresh delicacies, with free-flowing wine, in a remote hut with panoramic views of the snow-capped mountains.
Forget the chairlift, this experience requires an Uber Snowcat
Imagine a day of first tracks after first tracks
This experience is aimed at intermediate to advanced skiers (there are no green runs here), think knee-high powder.
You can reserve a spot for the exclusive, limited-time snowmobile and dining experience via the Uber Eats app in New Zealand. Simply enter Queenstown as your address and search for ‘Uber One Exclusive Ski Experience’.
The day-long event begins on Saturday, August 24 and runs for three consecutive weekends, giving a select group of thrill-seekers exclusive access to pristine mountain terrain.
With capacity limited to 20 guests per day, you can enjoy an intimate experience as you explore the mountain’s backcountry under the expert guidance of experienced professionals from the Soho Basin team.
Adding to the bitterness is the news that this will be the last year that Soho Basin will be open. From 2025, Cardrona will take over the slopes and install chairlifts.
