A mother’s ambition to dress her children in a terrifying costume turned into a bloody disaster.
Jessica Jovel’s twins are now old enough to choose their own costumes, but in a TikTok video, the mom couldn’t help but look back on a time when her twin girls were still babies — and she decided to dress them up as little mummies.
The mother of three shared her horror in a resurfaced video, realizing that after dressing her baby girls, Arla and Ayla, in their costumes, they looked less like an undead human and more like tiny tampons.
“It didn’t turn out the way we expected,” she says allowed in the caption. ‘I was terrified.’

Jessica shared some photos in the clip, which showed her then-newborn babies swaddled in blankets and white gauze – which was smeared with “blood.”
TikTok users were hysterical about the accident. Many said they thought the mother had deliberately dressed them up as tampons.
“They’re cute but I thought you dressed them up as tampons,” one laughed.
“I thought they were little tampons,” another agreed.
“I’ve never seen mummies with blood on them,” a third person commented. “They look like used gauze.”
“Aww, what cute damn Band-Aids,” someone else chimed in.
While tampons may not be a popular costume, there are plenty of fun outfits to choose from for Halloween 2023 – although they come at a price.

The survey found that a whopping 73 percent of respondents will participate in Halloween-related activities this year, up from 69 percent in 2022.
Money spent on costumes for adults, children and pets has reached a record high of $4.1 billion – almost a billion dollars more than spending on costumes before the pandemic.
Individual spending is also up, with consumers planning to spend a record $108.24 each – up from the previous record of $102.74 in 2021.
Popular chain Spirit Halloween says current movies and pop culture moments help determine the most popular costumes.
Barbie, the highest-grossing movie of 2023, is likely to be a very popular costume this year, with around 1.8 billion people expected to dress up as one of the iconic dolls.
“Social media continues to grow as a source of costume inspiration for younger consumers, as more people under the age of 25 turn to TikTok, Pinterest and Instagram for ideas,” said Phil Rist, executive vice president of strategy for Prosper Insights & Analytics.
