I travel non-stop for work and I will never walk bare foot, use USB ports or make coffee in a hotel room
A travel expert has shared the three things he will never do in a hotel, whether it’s a luxury stay or budget accommodation.
Max, who uses Max Miles Points online, is a seasoned traveler and self-confessed “germophobe” who is “a little bit paranoid.”
He said he would never use the coffee maker, plug his phone into the USB ports, or walk barefoot in a hotel.
“These apply whether I’m in a five-star hotel or a one-star hotel next to a highway,” he said in an online video.
First, Max never charges his phone through the integrated USB ports on the wall.

“The FCC reported on something called juice jacking where bad actors can steal your data through these USB ports,” he explained.
“Instead, use the wall outlet with a charger and your cable and connect your phone that way.”
Juice jacking is a cyber theft tactic that can load malware onto your phone as it charges, which can lock your device or steal personal information such as passwords.
Second, Max never uses the coffee maker if there is one in the room, as there are bacteria lurking inside.
“They may look clean and shiny on the outside, but you don’t know how often they are cleaned on the inside,” he said.
Finally, Max never walks barefoot on hotel room carpets and makes sure to always travel with a pair of slippers.
Unfortunately, he never uses coffee machines because although they are clean on the outside, they can be very dirty on the inside (stock image)
Max always makes sure to bring slippers on trips so he doesn’t have to walk on the carpets which he says are only vacuumed between guests
“You never know how clean these carpets are, they just get vacuumed between guests,” he explained.
Thousands were shocked by the tips, saying they had no idea about the hidden germs or potential hacking risk, while some said they did the same when checking in.
“Ugh I always use the ports, oh no,” one viewer wrote.
“I didn’t know about the USB port, good thing I always used my charger!” a second and a third simply added, “Yes yes and yes!”.
“I loved the slipper idea! I’ll definitely take mine with me everywhere,’ someone replied.
Others shared their own hotel no-nos, including one woman who suggested, “NEVER put your luggage on the bed or floor before checking for bed bugs!”.
“I’ll call housekeeping for extra towels and use them for area rugs!” another wrote.
“I disinfect everything and always carry Lysol wipes and spray,” a third commented.
“My mom brings a resealable bag and puts the TV remote in it before she starts using it. Research shows that this is one of the dirtiest things in the room,” explains a fourth.
